Nikki Peters pitched a perfect game as the Notre Dame softball team opened Class 3 District 1 tournament play with an easy win.

Second-seeded Notre Dame routed seventh-seeded Potosi 14-0 in five innings Wednesday in Potosi, Mo.

Peters recorded 12 strikeouts as the Bulldogs improved to 20-5.

Jessica Westrich, Madison Buelow, Christina Scherer and Riley Gant all had two of Notre Dame's 14 hits.

The Bulldogs scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning, then broke things open with a six-run second. They added four runs in the third and one in the fourth.

Notre Dame will take on No. 3 North County (13-9) at 5:30 p.m. today in a district semifinal. The Raiders eliminated sixth-seeded Doniphan (6-9) 13-3 in five inning.

Fourth-seeded Perryville advanced to the semifinals with a 5-3 win over No. 5 Fredericktown to end the Black Cats' season at 5-18.

The Pirates (9-16) will face top-seeded Park Hills Central (19-3) in today's first semifinal at 4 p.m. at the Trojan Recreation Complex.

The semifinal winners will meet for the district title at about 7 p.m.

Jackson 6, Poplar Bluff 1

Jackson pulled a mild upset during the opening round of the Class 4 District 1 tournament at Central.

Jackson, seeded fifth for the six-team event, beat fourth-seeded Poplar Bluff behind the pitching of freshman Sophie Wunderlich.

Wunderlich went all seven innings, allowing three hits and no walks while striking out six.

The Indians (10-14) had nine hits, led by Megan Clippard with three. Erica Gray had two hits and two RBIs. Kayla Keith and Mallorie Maintz added two RBIs apiece.

Jackson plays top-seeded, host Central at 4 p.m. today in the semifinals.

Notre Dame qualifies

Notre Dame's Camille Brewer and Amy Blattel both carded sectional-qualifying scores Wednesday in the Class 1 District 1 girls golf tournament at Forest Hills Country Club in Clarkson Valley, Mo.

Brewer carded a 21-over-par 93 and Blattel shot a 29-over-par 101 to qualify for next week's sectional tournament to be held at Crescent Farms Golf Course in the suburban St. Louis area.

Jessica Dreesbeimdieke of Westminster Christian Academy shot a 6-over-par 78 to earn the medalist honor.

Keevin Dyke and Duncan McKinley scored for the Tigers as they handed the host Pirates just their third loss of the season.

Ethan Groshong notched an assist for Central, which improved to 11-9. Perryville fell to 17-3.

Jackson 1, Notre Dame 0

Josh Scholl scored the lone goal on an assist from Trey Waddle with just under three minutes left to give the Indians the road win.

Goalkeeper Clay Darnell had the shutout for Jackson, which improved to 6-8-1 and dropped the Bulldogs to 7-9-1.

VOLLEYBALL

Oak Ridge 25 25 Meadow Heights 8 22

McKenzie Elam had six kills, five aces and two blocks to help lead the visiting Blue Jays (9-9-1) over the Panthers (7-12-2).

Emma Hemmann added seven kills and one ace while Chelsea Seyer notched nine digs for Oak Ridge (9-9-1).

JV -- Oak Ridge won 25-13, 25-22.

Kennett 23 25 25 Scott City 25 16 11

The Rams (1-16-1) squeezed out a win in the first set but the Indians bounced back for the road win.
