After splitting with each other in pool play on Friday, Class 3 district rivals Notre Dame and Perryville met once again in the championship match of the gold bracket in the Notre Dame Volleyball Fest on Saturday.

The Pirates (5-0-1) claimed a 25-19, 26-24 victory to take the title.

Lydia Goodson led Notre Dame (4-1-1) with 11 kills while Taylor Feeney added nine kills. Kaitlin Welter dished out 12 assists. Karsen Powers recorded 13 digs and Annie Siebert tallied 11 digs for the Bulldogs.

Notre Dame avoided an upset from Class 3 contender Dexter in the first round of the Gold Bracket tournament play. The Bulldogs rebounded after dropping the first set 18-25 to the Bearcats to take the next two sets 25-17, 25-22.

Goodson tallied 17 kills and Feeney added eight kills for Notre Dame. Taylor Cox contributed six kills while Welter also had six kills and 24 assists. Siebert recorded 21 digs and Powers had 20 in the Bulldogs' win over the Bearcats (4-2).

Perryville advanced to the championship match after beating Class 2 powerhouse St. Pius X. The Lancers (3-1-1), who have made three consecutive appearances at the state tournament, defeated the Pirates 24-26, 25-21, 25-14 in last year's three-set thriller for the championship.

Ste. Genevieve knocked off Jackson 25-20, 24-26, 25-17 in the championship match of the Silver Bracket.

Hailey Mouser recorded five kills and 10 digs to pace the Indians (2-4-1) in the loss. Autumn Reid added five kills and three aces while McKinzie Scott dished out seven assists. Kayla Thurman tallied 15 digs and Jenna Little put up six blocks.

The Indians defeated Central (0-6) in the other semifinal of the silver bracket to advance.

Little had five kills and four aces while Maci McCuan provided six assists and McKinzie Scott tallied seven digs for Jackson.

The Dragons (4-2) reached the championship after a 25-16, 25-3 rout of St. Vincent (0-4-1).

Jackson Invitational

Jackson won the boys senior division at its own Jackson Invitational.

The Indians also won the team title in the girls sophomore division, while Central won the sophomore boys.

The Indians also won three individual titles: Jack Jeffers (13 minutes, 1 second) finished first in the junior boys division; Tayler Winick (15:58) led the girls junior division; and Chelsea Drum (14:45) claimed the girls sophomore title.

The sophomore through seniors ran a 2.35-mile course, while the freshman course was 1.95 miles. The top 25 finishers in each race medaled.

Perryville defeated Sikeston 1-0 to win the championship of the Notre Dame SoccerFest.

Emanuel Miranda netted the game-winning goal on an assist from Kyle Wood for the Pirates (5-1). Goalkeeper Luke Dobbelare made four saves in the shutout.

Host Notre Dame rolled over Carbondale, Ill., 2-1 to earn third place.

Russell Beussink and Chandler Dorris scored the two goals for the Bulldogs (3-1). Devin Ziegler and Ben Parsons had the assists.

SOFTBALL

Notre Dame SoftballFest

The Notre Dame softball team remained undefeated and clinched the championship of its SoftballFest with a 5-4 victory over Kelly.

Jessica Westrich smacked a triple and had two RBIs to lead the Bulldogs to the win.

Nikki Peters got the win in the circle.

Samantha Ratledge went 3 for 4 at bat, including a triple, as the Hawks (6-1) suffered their first loss of the season.

Kristi Brucker took the loss on the mound.

Notre Dame's Taylor Hess smacked a double and drove in two runs to lead the Bulldogs in a 7-0 rout of St. Pius X of Festus in a semifinal. Conner Elfrink hit a triple while Shiloh Kirn and Maddie Below each belted a double for Notre Dame (7-0).

Peters again notched the pitching win.

In the consolation bracket, Saxony Lutheran rolled to a 10-1 victory over Delta before falling to Ste. Genevieve 4-3 in the title game.

Ashley Steck was the winning pitcher. Abby Hadler had a double to lead Saxony Lutheran in the win.

Rachel Birkman went 2 for 2 at bat to pace the Bobcats in the loss.

Abby Hadler had a home run to pace the Crusaders in the loss to Ste. Genevieve.

BOYS SWIMMING

ND finishes second

The Notre Dame boys swimming team placed first in three events to claim second place in the 15-team Ladue Horton Watkins Invitational on Saturday.

Zach Smith, Jackson Voss, Caleb Heisserer and Ethan Pobst finished ahead of the pack in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:24.62. Smith and Voss each finished first in the 500 and 200 freestyles, respectively.

Austin Hobbs took fifth in the 100 breaststroke to pace Jackson, which placed ninth overall.
