Conner Stark and Luke Schlichting scored 16 points each as the eleventh-seeded Perryville Pirates upset the 10th-seeded Crystal City Hornets 70-58 in a consolation semifinal of the Bob Sechrest, Jr., Christmas Tournament at Central High School in Park Hills, Missouri.

The Pirates maintained a one-point lead at halftime and outscored the Hornets by 11 points in the second half to cruise to victory.

Eli Tripp added 12 points for Perryville (6-4).

Andrew Sawdy had a game-high 28 points, including four 3-pointers, to pace Crystal City (9-5).

The Pirates will face No. 12 North County for the consolation title at noon today. The Raiders (5-6) upset eighth-seeded St. Pius X (4-5) 56-45 in Tuesday's earlier consolation semifinal to advance to the title game.

Trevor Leible scored a game-high 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds to help lead the sixth-seeded Indians to victory over the eighth-seeded Cougars for seventh place in the Valle Catholic Warrior Winter Classic in Ste. Genevieve, Missouri.

The Indians held a slim three-point lead at halftime and outscored the Cougars by five points in the second half to come away with the win.

Kaleb Schnurbusch and Luke Wibbenmeyer netted 10 points apiece for St. Vincent (3-6). Tyler Monier dished out six assists for the Indians.

Dayton Shepard recorded 16 points to pace Kingston (1-8).

Perryville 46, Viburnum 44

Emma Nelson scored 12 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead the fifth-seeded Pirates to third place in the St. Paul Lutheran Christmas Tournament in Farmington, Missouri, with a narrow upset over the third-seeded Blue Jays.

The Pirates posted one-point leads at the end of each half to edge out their second upset in the tournament.

"They made it a close game," Perryville coach Vicki Lohmann said. "We weren't supposed to win the first one [against fourth-seeded Jefferson]. ... Today we were competitive."

Kylie Bilek recorded 10 points and dished out six assists for the Pirates, who improved to 4-6 with the win. Ahnie Hoff contributed nine rebounds.

Lohmann said that execution by her guards were key to Perryville's win.

"I think that outside shooting really opened it up and gave us some margin to play with at the end," Lohmann said. "... We were really happy with the way things turned out before we head into the new year."

Viburnum's Emily Parker had a game-high 14 points to pace the Blue Jays, who fell to 5-5 with the loss.

Top-seeded St. Pius X (8-4) downed second-seeded West County (5-5) 49-33 for first place.

WRESTLING

Jackson takes 2nd at Flyer Holiday Tournament

Jake Byrd was the lone Indians wrestler to take first place at the 19-team Flyer Holiday Tournament at Lindbergh High School in the suburban St. Louis area.

Byrd won four matches to claim the 126-pound division championship for the Indians. Byrd won by fall over Lindbergh's Zach Seltzer in 1:13 in the first round before advancing to the second round with Fort Zumwalt North's Cameron Pickering, which he won by fall in 38 seconds. Byrd then went on to claim a 6-1 decision over Francis Howell Central's Kyle Mellor and then won by fall over Troy Buchanan's Luke Hardy in 1:17 for the title.

Three wrestlers -- Riley Mansker (106), Carson McCord (170) and Josh Stone (182) -- took second place for Jackson, which also finished in a distant second place in the team standings behind Francis Howell Central.

"We wrestled well, but we were missing six wrestlers out of our lineup due to sickness and illnesses," Jackson coach Steve Wachter said.

Isaac Baker (113), Payne Guilliams (132) and Bryce Dickerson (195) each finished fourth for Jackson. Micah Collier (145) and Zach Norick (160) placed fifth, and Jamieson McCullough (220) took sixth for the Indians.
