Meadow Heights posted a flawless 6-0 record in pool play to take first in Pool B in the opening night of the Woodland Invitational Tournament on Monday.
The Panthers edged Zalma 19-14, 19-17 and then topped Bell City 19-9, 19-2 before wrapping up the night with a 19-12, 19-5 win over Oak Ridge.
Meadow Heights (3-1) will face the team that finishes fourth in tonight's Pool A that includes Advance (1-0), Leopold (1-0), Saxony Lutheran (1-0) and Woodland (1-0).
The Cubs, Blue Jays and Bulldogs all ended up with 2-4 records in pool play after the three teams all split with each other. Bell City came out ahead of the pack after a 19-8, 18-20 split with Zalma gave the Cubs a nine-point score differential advantage. The Cubs split with Oak Ridge 16-19, 19-7 to finish second in the pool.
Oak Ridge (0-1-2) and Zalma (1-1-2) split 19-13, 15-19 to both finish with the same point differential. The Blue Jays defeated the Bulldogs by points in their head-to-head competition, thus taking the third seed in Pool B.
McKenzie Bess nailed 10 kills as the host Tigers picked up their first win of the season over the district rival Bulldogs (0-1).
Bailey Manley added six kills for Central (1-1) while Kassidy Pannier dished out nine assists. Jasmine Scott notched 10 digs to pace the Tigers defensively.

Perryville 11, Potosi 1
A big fifth inning during which the Pirates scored nine runs allowed the Perryville softball team to open its season on a high note with an 11-1 road rout of the Trojans (0-1).
Macey Hall picked up her first win of the season in the circle and also tripled. She threw a complete game and recorded five strikeouts.
Lilly Pecaut and Andrea Pannier each doubled and went 2 for 3 at the plate for Perryville (1-0).

Carly Hopkins won her singles match and joined teammate Maddie Walker to win the doubles match but the Bulldogs dropped their season opener on the road to the tennis powerhouse Indians (1-0).
