Senior Abbie McAlister slammed 16 kills to lead the Notre Dame volleyball team to a 25-18, 18-25, 25-17 victory over Farmington in its season opener Thursday in Farmington, Missouri.

"We were a little shaky," Notre Dame coach Tara Stroup said. "To win against Farmington is always good."

Junior Sam Brennan and sophomore Lexi Welter each added seven kills for Notre Dame (1-0). Senior Sam Feeney dished out 20 assists and junior Marianna Below notched 13 digs.

Dexter 25 25 Jackson 16 23

Senior Autumn Reid recorded seven kills and five aces in the Indians' first loss of the season on the road.

"We did a good job of controlling the momentum of the match," Jackson coach Tracy Robinson said. "Dexter served aggressively and we did not pass well. Dexter is a fantastic team and took advantage of our weaknesses."

Senior Lexie King tallied five kills and five digs for Jackson (1-1). Junior Hannah Hunt added five kills, while senior Kali Beussink had six digs. Junior Malary Burger contributed 15 assists and five digs.

Sophomore Krysten Garrison led Dexter (2-0) with eight kills. Sophomore Hannah Thurmon added five kills, and sophomore Bailee Williams had seven assists. Senior Brittany Brown notched nine digs.

JV -- Dexter won 25-16, 25-21

Perryville 25 25 Central 6 14

Brooke Hogard nailed five kills as the Pirates sailed to an easy victory on the road.

Emma Derickson notched four digs for Perryville (2-0). Lydia Cook also had four digs and served two aces.

Brittany Guzman had five kills and Kassidy Pannier dished out eight assists for Central (0-2).

St. Vincent 25 25 Windsor 22 12

Delia Lowman slammed seven kills as the Indians rebounded from a season-opening loss to Jackson and picked up their first win of the season at home.

Kassidy Kassel added six kills for St. Vincent (1-1), while Karly Huber dished out 16 assists.

Windsor fell to 2-3-1 with the loss.

Woodland Invitational Tournament

Fifth-seeded Bell City dealt a crushing upset to three-time defending tournament champion and fourth-seeded Leopold 25-23, 25-23 as the Cubs eliminated the Wildcats (0-4) and advanced to one of tonight's semifinals in the Woodland Invitational Tournament.

Bell City (3-0-1) will face top-seeded Advance in tonight's first semifinal at 5 p.m. The Hornets (3-0-2) swept eighth-seeded Oak Ridge 25-8, 25-10 in Thursday's first quarterfinal. The Blue Jays fell to 0-4.

Second-seeded host Woodland dismantled seventh-seeded Zalma 25-10, 25-15 in the third quarterfinal of the evening. Sophomore Krista Rhodes led the Cardinals with eight kills. Shelby Sawyer contributed seven kills and Emma Rinacke added three kills. Madison Cover dished out 12 assists and served four aces, Chelsea Cureton had six digs, and Anna Deck had six assists for the Cardinals. The Bulldogs dropped to 2-3.

Woodland (2-0-2) will face third-seeded Saxony Lutheran in tonight's second semifinal at 6 p.m. The Crusaders disposed of sixth-seeded Meadow Heights 25-13, 25-16 in the final quarterfinal. Logan Franke recorded six kills, and Allie Sprink had five kills and two aces to lead Saxony (2-0-2). Brianna Mueller tallied 11 assists and Jordan Hecht recorded seven assists, six digs, four kills and two aces for the Crusaders. The Panthers fell to 2-2-1.

The third-place game will take place at 7 p.m., followed by the championship at 8 p.m.

BOYS SOCCER

Saxony Lutheran 3, Hancock Place 2

Joe Rubach recorded one goal and one assist as the Crusaders wrapped up tournament play with a win over the Tigers in the final round of the 9th Annual Festus Classic.

Micah Mirly and Luke Daniel netted one goal apiece for Saxony Lutheran (2-2).

Goalkeeper Jacob Stueve had three saves.

SOFTBALL

Chaffee 3, Jefferson 2

Julia Sutterfield hit a double for the only extra-base hit of the game as the Red Devils rallied in the eighth inning to pick up their first win of the season on the road in Festus, Missouri.

Carleigh Burnett went the distance in the circle for Chaffee (1-2). She gave up no earned runs, struck out 11 and walked four.

Sarah Handrahan took the loss for Jefferson (4-2). She pitched a complete game, allowed three earned runs and recorded 11 strikeouts and three walks.

Andrea Kearbey sustained the loss in the circle and also doubled for East Carter County (0-2). She went the distance and gave up two earned runs and recorded two strikeouts and one walk.

Fleet Feet Kickoff Classic

Central senior Clayton Monia received 14th place with a time of 10 minutes, 47.95 seconds to help propel the Tigers to a fourth-place finish in their debut meet at the Fleet Feet Kickoff Classic at Arnold City Park in Arnold, Missouri.

Hillsboro senior Aaron Dugan was the only runner to finish in under 10 minutes with a first-place time of 9:49.79, helping the Hawks to first place in the boys division.

Rockwood Summit senior Melissa Menghini won the girls race with a time of 11:12.35. Herculaneum finished first in the team standings.
