The Notre Dame volleyball team experienced little resistance on its way to a sweep of Farmington in the Bulldogs' season opener Thursday.

Notre Dame, coming off a trip to the Class 3 final four, defeated the visiting Black Knights 25-17, 25-22.

Senior Shannon Brennan led the way with nine assists, two kills and four service aces.

Allyson Bradshaw and Amy Wibbenmeyer both put down six kills, while Brooke Bohnert added four.

The Bulldogs return to action today in their own VolleyballFest.

The host Indians survived to improve to 2-0 this season.

Kylie Seyer recorded seven kills, two aces and 13 digs to help Jackson rally past the Bearcats.

Lyndsey Hinkebein collected six kills while Kelsey McDowell contributed 22 assists.

Woodland tournament

Meadow Heights put a scare into Leopold, but the Wildcats rallied to advance to the title match with their 17-25, 25-15, 26-24 win.

Erin Bollmann led the Panthers with 10 kills.

Whitney Welker collected four kills followed by Heather Dietiker, Jillian Mills and Gina Cureton with three kills apiece for Meadow Heights (1-1).

Leopold will face Zalma for the tournament crown. The Bulldogs defeated Advance 25-14, 25-14. The title match is scheduled for 8 p.m. today.

Advance will face Meadow Heights at 7 p.m. today in the third-place match.

In other action, Saxony Lutheran advanced to the consolation final with a 25-19, 25-22 win over Oak Ridge. The Crusaders will face Woodland at 6 p.m. for the consolation title. Woodland defeated its junior varsity squad 25-12, 25-15.

BOYS SOCCER

Notre Dame SoccerFest

Nick Rangel scored two goals in the first half to help Jackson defeat Murray, Ky., 3-1 in the opening round.

Zach Taylor contributed the other goal, while Ryan Schlick added an assist.

Austin Baker collected four saves as Jackson (1-0) moved on to play Marion, Ill., in today's second round.

Marion advanced with a 3-2 victory over Saxony Lutheran.

In the other half of the bracket, host Notre Dame posted a 3-0 victory over Anna-Jonesboro.

Matthew Parsons contributed two goals and Aaron Arnzen added one to help the Bulldogs improve to 1-1.

Christian Essner had two assists and Tyler Buelow one in the win.

The Bulldogs will face Carbondale, Ill., in today's second record. Carbondale advanced with a 5-0 win over Central.

SOFTBALL

Notre Dame SoftballFest

Scott City picked up two wins in pool play and advanced to the semifinals.

The Rams (4-0) scored a run in the bottom of the seventh to defeat Sikeston 7-6, then rolled to a 19-5 victory over Chaffee in five innings.

Alexis Spriggs held Sikeston to five hits and belted a home run and triple. Macy Hall added two triples.

Stacey Heisserer went 3 for 4 as Scott City had seven hits.

Scott City belted out 16 hits in its win against Chaffee. Melanie Lacey hit a home run and Macy Hall had two more triples, a double and five RBIs.

Jenna Cummins added four RBIs.

No other scores from the tournament were reported.

Central's Caleb Coots, no stranger to the state meet, will be returning as a senior.

Coots collected two state-cut times with victories in the 200 individual medley and 100 butterfly.
