All the local high school events reported Saturday to the Southeast Missourian.

The Notre Dame volleyball team defeated Northwest (Cedar Hill) 25-15, 24-26, 25-17 in the championship match of the Festus Invitational on Saturday.

Taylor Feeney tallied 12 kills and Lydia Goodson had 11 kills in the championship match. Taylor Cox added six kills while Kaitlin Welter recorded 17 assists. Karsen Powers and Annie Siebert both had 24 digs, and Ronnie Young dished out 15 assists in the win.

Notre Dame rallied for a 23-25, 25-12, 25-12 win over De Soto in the semifinals.

Goodson had 18 kills and Feeney added 15 kills in the match. Welter contributed four kills and dished out 25 assists, while Cox also had four kills. Powers notched 18 digs.

The Bulldogs posted a 6-0 record in pool play with straight-set wins over Seckman (25-18, 25-14), Green Ridge (25-13, 25-16) and Farmington (25-20, 25-16) to receive a bye during the first round of the tournament.

"I love this tournament," Notre Dame coach Tara Stroup said. "It's perfect timing, it gets us tuned for districts and we get to play some really good teams that we've not played before."

The championship win over the Lions was only the second time that the Bulldogs (27-2-1) have won the title in about 10 years of participation.

"Northwest was a good team," Stroup said. "They came out first in their pool. They have some big girls who could hit the ball really hard. They kept swinging hard and were picking up a lot of our hits that made for some really long and good rallies."

Notre Dame returns to action Monday when it visits Dexter.

The Bearcats (26-3) won the Stoddard County Activities Association (SCAA) Conference Tournament on Friday
