All the local high school events reported Friday to the Southeast Missourian.

Cor Jesu Academy sank a pair of free throws with two seconds left to break a tie, and the host Chargers handed the Notre Dame girls basketball team its first loss of the season Friday night.

The 49-47 loss dropped the Bulldogs to 9-1.

"It was a tough loss," Notre Dame coach Renee Peters said. "They were a very good team. They're a large school. They're well coached and fundamentally sound. ... We were outsized."

Annie Siebert led the Bulldogs with 17 points and Shelby Beussink added 10 points. Kaitlin Welter grabbed seven rebounds.

Kristina Schmelter scored a game-high 20 points for Cor Jesu (8-6).

Quinn Poythress scored a game-high 23 points as the Bulldogs picked up a conference win on the road.

The Bulldogs held a seven-point lead at halftime and took a five-point lead into the fourth quarter before holding on.

Grant Ressel notched 17 points for Notre Dame (7-5).

Kevonte Mitchell led Kennett (10-4) with 16 points and Antavies Drake added 15 points.

Asten Newsom scored 15 points and grabbed five rebounds as the host Eagles notched the conference, beating the Tigers for the second time this season.

The Eagles led 25-23 at halftime before outscoring the Tigers by four points in the second half. New Madrid County Central (5-5) dealt Cape Central its first loss of the season 63-56 in both team's season opener in the Riverbend Classic on Nov. 29.

Andre Statam scored a game-high 19 points and recorded 11 rebounds, while Jamal Cox added 11 points and eight rebounds for the Tigers (5-8).
