The Notre Dame baseball team ran into some early trouble and was never able to recover, dropping a 4-0 decision against Kennett in SEMO Conference action Saturday in Kennett, Missouri.

Both starting pitchers went the distance and allowed only two hits, as Tyler Essner was tagged with the pitching loss for Notre Dame (8-3, 3-2 SEMO Conference). Essner allowed four runs (one earned) with three strikeouts and one walk.

Edward Wilson picked up the shutout win on the mound for Kennett (8-4, 4-1). He finished with four strikeouts and three walks.

Essner had the game's only extra-base hit, a double.

Jonesboro (Ark.) 7, Notre Dame 4

The Bulldogs gave up six runs in the top of the seventh inning, falling to the Hurricane in Kennett, Missouri.

Ross Essner relieved starting pitcher Ethan Hunter in the seventh and was tagged with the loss on the mound for Notre Dame (8-4). He scattered five hits on six runs (all earned) with one strikeout and two walks in an inning of work.

Essner also finished 2-for-3 to lead the Bulldogs at the plate.

Hunter allowed one unearned run on three hits in six innings of work. He finished with five strikeouts and one walk.

Ben Brown threw 2 2/3 innings to pick up the pitching win for Jonesboro. He didn't allow a hit or a run and had two strikeouts and no walks.

Farmington 5, Jackson 3

The host Indians were plagued by three errors in the loss to the Knights.

Gavon Turner went five innings and took the pitching loss for Jackson (10-9). He allowed six hits and five runs (two earned) with two strikeouts and one walk.

Jarrett Newell had a double and a single to pace the Indians at the plate.

John Bader threw five innings to nab the victory on the mound for Farmington (3-10). He struck out one, walked one and gave up seven hits and three runs (all earned).

Indians starting pitcher Colten Weber allowed only two hits in a complete-game victory over the visiting Trojans.

Weber fanned 14 batters and had one walk, giving up one unearned run.

Ryan Mize led Jackson (11-9) at the plate with a single and a double.

Noah Jacobsen was tagged with the loss in six innings of work for Potosi (8-9), allowing three unearned runs on four hits with seven strikeouts and no walks.

The Hawks scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh to secure the win over the visiting Pirates.

Ty Householder and Levi Alsup each finished with a triple and a single for Kelly (7-8), while Jeremiah Bain and Kyle Fitzgerald added a double and a single apiece. Jacob McClain also added a pair of base hits for the Hawks.

Trent Unterreiner pitched three innings and was tagged with the pitching loss for Perryville (6-7-1), allowing six hits and five runs (all earned) with two strikeouts and one walk.

The Pirates were paced on offense by Austin Miller, who had three singles, and Kameron Fears, who had a pair of base hits. Derek Kirn provided Perryville's only extra-base hit, a double.

The Hawks notched two runs in the top of the eighth to defeat the visiting Blue Jays in extra innings.

Jonathon Tyler got the start and threw seven innings to pick up the win on the mound for Kelly (8-8). He struck out seven, walked one and allowed six hits and two runs (one earned). Ty Householder threw a scoreless inning of relief to secure the save.

Mitchell Proctor had a pair of singles to lead the Hawks at the plate, while Kyle Fitzgerald added a double.

Campbell Eberson took the pitching loss for Jefferson (4-8), finishing with two strikeouts and three walks in 1 1/3 innings of work. He allowed two hits and two earned runs.

Bollinger led the Panthers at the plate, finishing 2-for-3 with a double. Reece Boyd also went 2-for-3 for Meadow Heights, while Lane Baremore added a triple.

Douglas finished with four strikeouts and five walks to pick up the pitching win for Meadow Heights (5-7). He allowed six runs (five earned) on seven hits.

Baremore finished with three hits for the Panthers, while Douglas helped himself on offense with a pair of hits, including a double. Reece Boyd and Dawson Lindren each added two doubles and a single for Meadow Heights.

Scott City goes 2-2 at Malden

The Scott City baseball team went 2-2 in the Malden Invitational Tournament over the weekend.

The Rams won 6-0 on Saturday behind the one-hit pitching of Jordan Kluesner, and also lost 11-3 to Bernie.

Kluesner struck out 10 batters and walked three for the Rams (10-6).

Bryan McNeely, Trent Pobst and Drew Short each had two hits in the win.

Braden Cox had three hits in the loss to Bernie. Dakota Talley took the loss on the hill.

On Friday, Scott City defeated Malden 9-4, then lost to Cooter 3-2 in 10 innings.

GIRLS SOCCER

Kickapoo Tournament

Jackson closed out the final day of the tournament in Springfield, Missouri, with a 2-1 win over Timberland and a 4-0 victory over Sacred Heart, and the Indians won their pool.

Megan Hawk and Lauren Welker each had a goal and an assist for Jackson (13-1) in the first game, while goalkeeper Sam Schnicker recorded five saves.

Schnicker and Emily Hermann combined for two saves and the shutout in the net in the Indians' final game of the tournament. Welker, Natalie Miller, Grace Pehle and Madison Yamnitz each notched a goal, and Randa Norman contributed an assist.

Spartan Invitational

Saxony Lutheran wrapped up the tournament in Moberly, Missouri, with a 2-1 victory over Southern Boone and a 6-0 win over Camdenton.

Grace Mirly and Tess Daniel had one goal apiece in the first game for the Crusaders, while Maddie Brune provided an assist.

Mirly had a pair of goals and an assist to lead Saxony (12-1) in its tournament finale, and Brune contributed a goal and an assist. Tayla Meyr, Brianna Mueller and Whitney Unterreiner each added a goal in the victory, while Daniel and Etty Soto provided one assist apiece. Raegan Wieser was credited with the shutout in the net, finishing with five saves.

Hillsboro Tournament

Kirstin Jannin and Brooke Hogard each scored an unassisted goal in the first half to lead Perryville to a 2-0 win over Cape Central in the championship in Hillsboro, Missouri.

Camryn Baer earned the shutout in the net for Perryville (9-3-1), finishing with 12 saves.

Fralish Cup

Notre Dame dropped a 1-0 decision against Waterloo in a semifinal before edging Farmington 4-2 in the third-place game in Carbondale, Illinois.

Megan Heisserer had a pair of goals and an assist for the Bulldogs, while Alaina Baumgart added a goal and an assist. Emma Sievers netted a goal for Notre Dame (7-4), and Kristen Tarno and Maddie Urhahn contributed one assist apiece.
