Lexi Vandeven threw a no-hitter to lead the Leopold softball team to a season-opening 21-1 conference win over Zalma in three innings Friday at home.
Vandeven finished with seven strikeouts and three walks for Leopold (1-0), which erupted for 19 runs in the second inning. Leah Landewee went 3 for 3 with a double to lead the Wildcats at the plate.

Top-seeded Jackson and third-seeded Marion (Ill.) prevailed in their semifinal matches of the Noon Optimist Club Tournament at Central High School.
The Indians thumped fourth-seeded Perryville 8-0, and the Wildcats beat seventh-seeded host Central 1-0 in Friday's semifinals.
Second-seeded Notre Dame and fifth-seeded Sikeston won their consolation semifinals.
Notre Dame topped sixth-seeded St. Vincent 2-1, and Sikeston downed eighth-seeded Poplar Bluff 4-0. Larysa McClellan scored two goals while Kylie Noe and Torrie Helms each scored one goal for the Bulldogs.
