Senior Landon Johnson went 3 for 4 and belted a pair of two-run home runs to left field, leading the host Woodland baseball team to a 9-7 win over Advance on Thursday.
Garret Reynolds picked up the win on the mound for the Cardinals (12-7). He pitched three innings in relief of Johnson, struck out six batters, walked two, scattered four hits and allowed three unearned runs. He also finished 3 for 4 at the plate with a double.
"Our two big guns are really carrying us," Woodland coach John Craig said. "Landon had a couple home runs in some big spots there. Garret came in and shut them down for the most part until the last inning when we let a few unearned runs come in, but I'm just proud of the kids. We've lost three good players to injuries, and they're still fighting."
Dawson Mayo took the loss for the Hornets (5-15). He pitched 5 2/3 innings, allowed 11 hits and nine runs -- seven earned -- and had six strikeouts and two walks.
Advance's Phoenix Beal was 3 for 5 with a double, while Preston Wuebker finished 3 for 4.
Craig said its good to see his team playing so hard with the district tournament beginning on May 16.
"Any win you can get right now is good," Craig said. "... For these guys to get this experience going into next season and the postseason is huge."
