OAKVILLE, Mo. -- The Cape Central Lady Tigers were in another "zone" in the championship final of the Oakville Tournament.

Central (2-1) picked up the second-place trophy as it suffered its first defeat of the season at the hands of Francis Howell 51-40.

Lady Tiger coach Mark Ruark minced no words when speaking of the intensity of his team.

"It was a very uninspired effort by us," said Ruark. "They played a 1-3-1 zone against us and we just weren't patient enough to find the holes and get the ball to our scorers."

Central did hold the halftime lead at 28-21, but were outscored 21-7 in the third quarter when Francis Howell put the game away.

Heather Jenkins, sidelined by injury for two games, led the Lady Tigers with 14 points. Sarah Hyslop chipped in with 12.

Central's leading scorer, Katie Dougherty, was held to a season-low of 4 points.

The Lady Tiger JV squad took the championship in its division with a 59-28 victory over Francis Howell.

Megan McDonald led Central with 25 points.

Kelly 68, Chaffee 52

CHAFFEE -- Marissa Essner and Bridgett Riley combined for 46 points as the Lady Hawks improved to 3-0 on the season.

Essner poured in 26 points while Riley accounted for 20.

Morgan Kiefer led Chaffee with 25 points.

Kelly led 35-26 at halftime en route to victory.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Jackson 75, Park Hills 60

FARMINGTON, Mo. -- The Jackson Indians used balanced scoring attack to overcome an outstanding individual performance by an opposing player.

The Indians prevailed over Park Hills Central to capture third place in the Farmington Tournament.

Jackson had a tough game against Farmington in the semifinals on Wednesday, losing 81-77 in one overtime period.

"I was a little concerned coming in," said Indian coach Mike Kiehne. "It was our third game in three nights, but our kids showed a lot of character."

Scoring for the Indians were Brad Hilbert (29), Matt Farrell (14), Seth McDowell (12) and Nathan Brown (11). McDowell led the Indians in rebounds with 15.

Six-foot-three Park Hills swingman Lance Sechrest riddled the Indians for 35 points including nine treys -- six in the second half.

Oran Tournament

ORAN -- The top two seeds, Twin Rivers and Notre Dame, advanced to the championship game of the Oran Tournament Thursday night with comfortable victories.

Top-seeded Twin Rivers stormed past No. 5 Scott County Central 89-56, while No. 2 Notre Dame eased past No. 6 Bell City 65-46.

Cory Beussink led Notre Dame with 14 points and Jonathan Ressell added 13. Mark Rubel sank four 3-pointers for 12 points.

Eric Henry paced Bell City with 18 points and Gabe Scherer tallied 15.

Notre Dame led 16-10 after one quarter and held a 29-21 lead at halftime. The Bulldogs broke the game open with a 23-10 scoring edge in the third quarter for a commanding 52-31 lead.

Jason Jenkins poured in 33 points in Twin River's victory over Scott County Central. The outcome was never in doubt as Twin Rivers built an 18-6 lead by the close of the first quarter and led 46-25 by halftime.

In tonight's action, Richland and Oran will meet in the consolation final at 5:30; Scott Central and Bell City will meet for third at 7; and Notre Dame and Twin Rivers will square off for the championship at 8:30.

Woodland Tournament

MARBLE HILL, Mo. -- Top-seeded Advance and No. 2 Woodland will meet for the Woodland Tournament championship tonight at 8:30 after both posted semifinal wins Thursday night.

Advance clobbered Oak Ridge 61-39 and Woodland defeated Leopold 48-38, while Bloomfield got past Meadow Heights 66-52 in a consolation semifinal.

In the Advance game, Adam Rainey led the Hornets with 16 points, while Andrew Jenkins scored 11. Beau Morrison scored 12 to lead Oak Ridge, while Clayton Reusler added 11.

Advance led 18-7 after the first quaerter and 34-12 at halftime.

Woodland got 21 points from Chris Masters including five three-pointers, while Ryan Bandermann added 11. For Leopold, Kevin Holzum scored 12 points on four threes.

"It was really a hard-fought game," said Woodland coach Jennings Wilkinson. "We had a couple of spurts in the third and fourth quarters and got it to 12 points and we kind of played even from there on out."

Bloomfield got 25 points from Adam Kingree and 20 from James Christian in its win over Meadow Heights. Joe Jordan scored 12 points to lead the Panthers, while Josh Mayfield added 10.
