All the local high school events reported Tuesday to the Southeast Missourian.

Gus Klaus scored a game-high 25 points and Saxony Lutheran survived a last-second shot to advance to the semifinals of the Chester Invitational boys basketball tournament Tuesday.

Saxony Lutheran (5-7) outscored Valle Catholic by one point in both the third and fourth quarters after the teams played to a 28-28 stalemate in the first half.

The Crusaders will play the Chester vs. Joppa, Ill., winner at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the semifinals.

The championship game of the eight-team event will be played at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

Caleb Newcomer added 11 points, including three treys, for Jackson (10-4).

St. Vincent's suffocating defense held the Crusaders scoreless in the third quarter.

Julia Steffens led Saxony Lutheran (3-7) with five points.

The Indians improved to 9-4 with the win.
