Central singles player Josey Powell and the Jackson doubles team of Madison Mumma and Mackenzie Mumma both claimed district tennis championships on Wednesday afternoon in the Class 2 District 1 individual tournament hosted by Sikeston.
Powell entered the tournament as the No. 2 seed but knocked off top-seeded Amanda Brady of Farmington 2-6, 6-4, 6-2 to earn the title for a second consecutive year. Both players advanced to next week's sectional tournament at a date and time to be decided.
Powell received a bye in the first round, defeated Poplar Bluff's Nikkia Hickman 6-1, 6-0 in the quarterfinals and beat Jackson's Mikelle Culbreth 6-2, 6-1 in the semifinals.
Culbreth finished third after defeating Sikeston's Alli Price in the third-place match.
The Mummas, twin sisters in their first year of varsity play, defended their overall top seed after beating Farmington's No. 1 team in the final 4-6, 6-2, 6-2.
The duo defeated Central's team of Kate Harding and Natalie Grimm in straight sets in the semifinal round. Harding and Grimm advanced to the semifinals by defeating Smith and Hall of Farmington 6-1, 0-6, 6-1.
The Mumma sisters will also compete in next week's sectional tournament.
Farmington won the district team title on Tuesday after defeating Central 5-0 in the championship. Central defeated Jackson 5-0 in the semifinal round.
The Notre Dame tennis team fell to Kennett 5-2 in the championship of the Class 1 District 1 team tournament. Notre Dame No. 1 Carly Hopkins was a part of both victories for the Bulldogs. She defeated Kennett No. 1 Hadley Hilburn 6-1, 6-1 in singles play and paired with Maddie Walker to defeat Kate and Heidi Shetley 8-3 in doubles play.

The Bulldogs picked up the road win behind Nikki Peters' performance in the circle. The senior pitched five innings, allowing two runs on five hits while striking out five and walking none.
Anne Ziegler was 3 for 3 for Notre Dame (17-6) while Morgan Duschell was 2 for 3 with a triple.

The Hawks blanked the Eagles to pick up their 20th win of the season.
Senior Samantha Ratledge was 3 for 4 for Kelly with a two-run home run, two doubles and four RBIs. Shanda Reed added a triple, double and three RBIs while Alexis Dock recorded a double, triple and two RBIs.

The Red Devils dropped to 7-13 with the home loss. A four-run fifth inning helped Central erase an early deficit and overcome six errors in the field to earn the win.

The Crusaders dropped to 15-8 with the road loss.
The Pirates improved to 14-1 with a dominating win on the road.
Eann Bergman scored twice while Michael Volansky, Kyle Wood, Matt Moran and Luke Schlichting all added a single goal. Volansky, Moran, Emmanuel Miranda and Nathan Noland all had an assist while Schlichting had two.
Luke Dobbelare was in goal for 20 minutes of the shutout performance before Trent Unterreiner took over for the final 60 minutes.

The Woodland boys team had seven runners finish in the top eight spots to run away with first-place at the Chaffee High School Postal Meet.
Garret Reynolds won with a time of 17 minutes, 7 seconds and his teammates Landon Thomsen and Logan Thomsen took second and third, respectively. Brandon Sitzes, Tommy Grindstaff, Evan Grindstaff and Kyle Davis finished fifth through eighth.
On the girls side, Saxony Lutheran placed first, led by Grace Hanebrink, who finished third in 22:59.
Delta's Jamie Hodge won the race with a time of 22:40.
Chaffee finished second in the meet. Lyndsey Statler led the Red Devils with a 10th-place finish in 24:01.
