All the local high school events reported Saturday to the Southeast Missourian,

Jackson senior Chelsea Drum was the first in a field on more than 800 runners to cross the finish line to help lead the Indians to a second-place team finish at the 27th Annual Chile Pepper Festival on Saturday in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

Over 100 teams from nearly 10 states participated in the event, which was held at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Ark. Drum set a personal best record of 17 minutes, 46.23 seconds to complete the 3.1-mile race.

"We're pretty happy," Jackson coach Andrea Talley said.

Senior teammate Carli Knott also had a good showing at the race with an 11th-place time of 18 minutes, 38.58 seconds. The Indians finished 140 points behind Carroll, a suburban Texas high school located in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.

Rudy McClellan and Alaina Baumgart were the first runners to cross the finish line to lead the host Bulldogs to the championship of the Notre Dame Invitational.

All of the Notre Dame girls finished in the Top 10 as the Bulldogs placed 60 points ahead of Poplar Bluff in the team standings. On the boys' side, three Bulldogs runners placed in the Top 10 as Notre Dame placed 29 points ahead of Cape Central to capture the title.

BOYS SWIMMING

Cape Rock Invitational

The Cape Central boys swimming team set several state-qualifying cuts and posted five first-place time to finish sixth overall at Saturday's 30-team Cape Rock Invitational at the Central Municipal Pool.

Central's 200 medley relay team of junior Reagan Ragsdale, sophomore Sam Hahs, sophomore Brogan Davis and senior John Young broke the meet record with a state-qualifying first-place time of 1 minute, 38.35 seconds. Parkway Central had held the original meet record of 1:40.98 in the event that was set in 2012.

Ragsdale also set a pair of state-qualifying first-place times in the 50 freestyle (22.40 seconds) and 100 freestyle (49.41 seconds) for the Tigers. Davis added a pair of state-qualifying first-place finishes in the 100 butterfly (51.38 seconds) and 100 backstroke (52.26 seconds). Hahs notched two state qualifiers in the 100 breaststroke and 100 butterfly as well.

Vianney senior Nick Alexander shattered two meet records for the Golden Griffins, who placed 10th overall.

Notre Dame placed 14th and Jackson tied Timberland for 17th place to round out the local results.

Class 1 District 1 Individuals Tournament

Notre Dame's doubles team of Carly Hopkins and Grace Powderly advanced to the sectional playoffs with a victory over Kennett's Alexa McPherson and Heidi Shetley at Saturday's Class 1 District 1 Individuals Tournament.

Hopkins and Powderly will compete in the first round of sectionals at 4 p.m Tuesday at Notre Dame Regional High School.

Jessica Kirk sustained the loss to pace Parkway South (18-8). She allowed one earned run, struck out one and walked one.

Arman Kovac scored the game-winning goal on an assist from Muhamed Husejinovic as the Flyers downed the Indians in the suburban St. Louis area.

Lindbergh improved to 10-7, while Jackson dropped to 10-3-2.

Perryville 1, Belleville West 0 (PKs)

The Pirates edged the Maroons in penalty kicks to receive third place in Group E of the 11th Annual Gateway City Soccer Classic in Belleville, Ill.

Perryville (16-2) was sent to the third-place game after Mehlville dealt the Pirates their second loss of the season in a 1-0 semifinal win on Friday. Jacob Richter netted the lone goal unassisted for the Panthers, who fell to Raymore-Peculiar 5-1 in Saturday's championship match.

Carthage 5, Notre Dame 1

Wyn Roberds kicked the lone goal on assist from Powers as the Bulldogs fell to the Tigers in the consolation match to receive sixth place in Group G of the 11th Annual Gateway City Soccer Classic.

The score was tied 1-1 at halftime before Carthage (12-6) rallied and scored four goals in the second half.

Notre Dame beat Highland, Ill., 2-0 in a consolation semifinal earlier Saturday. Roberds scored one goal on an assist from Powers. Ira Holcomb netted the other goal on an assist from Blake Bauwens.

The Bulldogs fell to Nixa 3-1 in Friday's tournament opener. The Eagles went on to defeat Dunlap, Illinois, 4-0 for the tournament title.

VOLLEYBALL

Saxony Luth. 25 25 27, North County 16 27 25

Logan Franke recorded 11 kills and 12 digs as the Crusaders picked up a big win against the Class 3 powerhouse Raiders in the St. Francois County Rotary Club Classic at Mineral Area College.

Allie Sprink added 11 kills and three aces for Saxony Lutheran (15-11-14). Brianna Mueller tallied 17 digs, 11 assists, six kills and three aces, while Jordan Hecht contributed 10 digs, eight assists, four kills and two blocks for the Crusaders.

North County fell to 17-5-1.

Perryville 25 25, Park Hills Central 13 18

Sophie Bollinger and Kayla Buchheit each notched four digs to lead the Pirates in the sweep of the Rebels at the St. Francois County Rotary Club Classic at Mineral Area College.

Paige Lewis served two aces for Perryville (20-10-2).

Park Hills Central fell to 3-21-1.

Bloomfield 25 25, Oran 10 22

Brianna Stause nailed six kills but it was not enough as the Eagles were swept by the visiting Wildcats.

Jessie Long added three kills to pace Oran (6-11).

Bloomfield upped its record to 12-10-2.
