Hailey Mouser scored two goals to lead the Jackson girls soccer team to a 5-0 victory over rival Central in the opening round of the Noon Optimist Club Tournament on Thursday at Notre Dame Regional High School.
Alexa Kelpe and Megan Hawk added one goal apiece for Jackson (2-0). Randa Norman contributed a goal and an assist, while Cassidi Tomsu also had one assist for the Indians.
Goalkeeper Sarah Blanton made two saves.
The Indians will face Marion (Ill.) in a semifinal at 5:45 p.m. today. The Wildcats advanced with a 7-0 rout of Sikeston.
Perryville and Notre Dame also recorded first-round shutouts in the tournament.
Perryville's Allison Moldenhauer and Brooke Hogard scored goals in the Pirates' season debut, a 2-0 victory over Poplar Bluff.
Moldenhauer and Anna Huskey recorded assists.
Pirates goalkeeper Miranda Stortz made 10 saves.
Annie Siebert provided the lone goal in Notre Dame's 1-0 win over St. Vincent.
Jordan Nelson provided the assist for the Bulldogs (2-0).
Notre Dame goalkeeper Madison Beulow made two saves.

Lexi Vandeven allowed just one hit in the Wildcats' season-opening game at home that was limited to five innings because of rain.
Vandeven struck out seven, walked three and no earned runs. He lone hit allowed came in the top of the fifth inning.
Brittany Garland belted a home run and had two hits for Leopold. Klara Beel added triple for the Wildcats.

Josie Long homered and drove in three runs to lead the Cardinals in the five-inning conference road victory.
Long also notched her second win of the season in the circle. She pitched four innings and gave up three walks and had no strikeouts.
Kathlyn Cooper had two doubles and three RBIs for Woodland (3-2). Rachel Poole also doubled and drove in three runs for the Cardinals.
Mara Mayo went 4 for 4 at the plate for Bloomfield (0-3).

Becky Burger belted a triple and a double in a 4-for-4 performance as the Rams clobbered the Hornets on the road in three innings.
Burger was also the winning pitcher. She threw two innings, striking out four and walking one.
Macy Hall, Liz Hensley and Valerie Bahr all had two hits for the Rams. Lyndsie Robert and Jamie Glastetter also doubled for Scott City (3-2).

The Kelly girls track and field team placed first in seven events to clinch the title of the Chaffee Open on Thursday.
The Hawks were led by Emiley Brolen, who posted first-place times in both the 800 and 1,600 meters, and Samantha Ratledge, who won the long jump and triple jump. The host Red Devils used a victory in the 1,600 relay and a first-place finish by Brooklyne Burton in the 400 to place second. Oran, led by senior Addie Kielhofner's sweep of the hurdles, tied East Prairie for third place.
East Prairie won the boys title. Kelly, led by Dalton Huffman's wins in the triple jump and high jump, placed four points ahead of Malden for second place. Skyler Bewley swept the hurdles for Scott City, which finished fourth. Chaffee's Logan Chapman won the 100 and 200 dashes for the fifth-place Red Devils.
