High school roundup: Jackson baseball team strikes early in win over Marion

Laban Petzoldt and Ryan O'Rear both had a triple as the Indians held off Marion (Ill.) 10-8 in baseball action Friday at Whitey Herzog Stadium.

Avery Whiteside picked up his first win on the mound.

Kyle James and Petzoldt each went 2 for 3, while O'Rear was 2 for 4 for Jackson (2-1), which had nine hits overall.

Colton Carter went 3 for 5 for the Wildcats (3-3).

The Indians scored all nine of their runs over the first three innings, including six times in the second inning.

Brett Dirnberger smacked a double and went 3 for 4 in the Rams' road loss.

Tim Clayton had a double to lead the Eagles (2-1).

New Madrid took a 5-0 lead into the fourth inning, but the Rams moved ahead with four runs in the top of the fourth and three in the sixth for a 7-5 lead. The Eagles answered with six runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Ciara Coomer had a double and went 2 for 3 in the Bobcats' season-opening victory on the road.

Coomer was also the winning pitcher with 10 strikeouts and two walks.

Mary Jo Atchison went 2 for 3 to pace the Bears.

Delta scored all its runs in the fourth and fifth innings.
