Trey Gardner belted a solo home run in the first inning and Christian Cavaness added an inside-the-park home run in Central's 8-4 victory over visiting Dexter in baseball action Thursday.

J.P. Huston doubled, while Thomas Crocetti went 2 for 3 for the Tigers (9-5).

Andrew Hileman pitched 4 1/3 innings, allowing two runs and four hits while striking out seven.

GIRLS SOCCER

Perryville tournament

St. Vincent defeated Fredericktown 6-0 in the first round.

Abby Lappe netted two goals and two assists, while Holly Blandford added two goals and one assist in the win.

Courtney Heberlie and Emily Cissell both had a goal, and Storm French and Val Smith added an assist apiece.

Katie Mattingly and Abby Rueffler both had a save in goal for the Indians (11-3).

St. Vincent will play Notre Dame today.

Perryville netted six goals in the second half to beat Festus 8-0.

Allie Moldenhauer and Sam Amberger both had two goals and an assist in the win.

Abbie Schilli and Megan Moldenhauer had one goal and two assists apiece, while Courtney Borden added a goal and an assist for the Pirates (6-3).

Megan Franklin scored a goal, and Kelsey Schremp had an assist.

Perryville will face Farmington today.

Chaffee Invitational

The Chaffee boys and girls took first in their home meet.

The girls won with a score of 124, while Saxony Lutheran finished third with 63.

Ellie Sigman won three individual events for the Red Devils, while Saxony Lutheran won the 3,200 and 1,600 relays.

Scott City, which placed sixth, won the 400 and 800 relays.

The Chaffee boys placed first with 146 points, while Scott City followed with 96 points.

Chaffee finished with three individual first-place finishes and swept the relays.

Zach Cotner won the high jump and placed second in the triple jump for the Rams.
