Central freshman Brogan Davis was crowned the new champion in the 100 backstroke as the Tigers placed eighth at Saturday's 28-team CoMo Invitational at the Mizzou Aquatics Center in Columbia, Missouri.
Davis touched the wall in 52.67 seconds to take first in the event. He edged Rockhurst's A.J. Iseman by 16 seconds to clinch the gold. Davis also won the silver in the 100 butterfly in which Iseman finished 15 seconds ahead.
Freshman Sam Hahs finished in the top 10 in the 100 breaststroke with a seventh-place time of 1 minute, 2.72 seconds for the Tigers. Rockhurst's Alex Albracht won the event in 57.90 seconds.
Davis and Hahs, along with Christian Retter and John Young, took fourth in the 200 medley relay for the Tigers. The pack also shattered the school's longest-standing swimming record at the same time in the event. The record had been held for 21 years. Hahs' father Clay was a member of that 1993 medley team that previously held the record.
