All the area high school events reported Friday and Saturday to the Southeast Missourian

Andrew Dooley and Alex Davie combined for a no-hitter as the Chaffee baseball team opened its season Friday with a 7-0 home win against Risco.

Dooley struck out six and walked three in four innings, while Davie followed with three strikeouts and two walks in three innings.

Andrew Terhune and Alex Crowe both had two RBIs for Chaffee, which scored six runs in the third inning.

Terhune, Davie, Cody Payne and Jared Walker all had doubles for the Red Devils, whose eight hits were provided by eight players.

"Our pitcher threw well, the defense made some good plays behind them and everyone hit the ball," Chaffee coach Brian Horrell said. "It's a good way to start the season."

Notre Dame 5, Valle 4

Notre Dame scored four runs with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning to rally for a season-opening victory Friday against Valle Catholic.

Sophomore catcher Chase Simmons capped his first varsity start in memorable fashion as his first varsity hit also served as the game-winner.

"It was pretty ugly 'til the last inning for us," Notre Dame coach Jeff Graviett said of the game, which included 12 strikeouts by his team.

Trailing 4-1, Cody Heisserer and Alex Beussink opened the seventh inning with singles for Notre Dame. The next two Bulldogs struck out, and Kyle Campbell prolonged the game with a walk to load the bases. Winning pitcher Jonathan Lynch then singled home two runs to cut the lead to 4-3. Nathan Beussink drew a walk to reload the bases, and Jesse Schott tied the game with a walk on a 3-2 pitch.

Simmons, who had struck out in his three previous at-bats, then provided the game-winning hit.

Lynch allowed three hits and one run in two innings of relief. He walked one and struck out one.

Heisserer pitched the first five innings and allowed three hits. Only one of the three runs he surrendered was earned.

Lynch had two of Notre Dame's five hits, including a double.
