Central will send six wrestlers to the state meet next weekend after they finished in the top four in their weight classes at Saturday's Class 3 District 1 meet in Farmington, Mo.

"There were no surprises," Central coach James Brake said. "We had six of them seeded in the top four, so it would have been a letdown if six wouldn't have qualified. They came out and lived up to expectations. All in all, I was pleased, they were pleased.

"This is the first time we've had six qualifiers in a really long time. It's kind of a sign the program is on the up and up."

Trey Grovenor will return to the state meet after placing second at heavyweight. He lost the title match 2-0.

Desmond Howard (130 pounds) and Kevin Flesher (130) both finished third to earn trips to state. Howard also qualified last year.

Caleb Yeargain (125), Jawaun Howard (145) and Raymond Woldtvedt (160) each finished fourth to earn state berths. Woldtvedt also qualified last year.

"The juniors and seniors, they wrestled pretty tough, good enough to qualify for state, which was their goals," Brake said. "They looked pretty good. Some of the younger guys got a little bit of experience of what it's going to take for next year."
