Andre Statam scored 29 points to help lead the Central Tigers boys basketball team to a 69-67 win over the host Carbondale, Illinois, Terriers on Saturday.
A strong first half in which the Tigers outscored the Terriers by 17 points proved to be key to Central's victory as the Terriers stormed out and scored 55 of their 67 points in the second half.
Al Young netted 20 points for Central (13-4).
Allen Billinger sank 29 points and Khouel Powell tossed in 11 points for Carbondale (14-3).

A fouling frenzy by the Reindeer proved costly as the Rams scored just under half of their total points at the charity stripe to come away with a win at Three Rivers Community College in Poplar Bluff.
Brock Uelsmann sank a game-high 20 points to lead Scott City (10-4). Dylan Keller recorded 18 points and four assists, and Braden Cox tallied 16 points and eight rebounds for the Rams.
A total of 72 free throws were shot between both teams.
Anthony Adams bucketed 18 points and Emmanuel White tossed in 14 points for Clarkton (10-5).

McGwire Bartley sank a game-high 19 points as the Pirates sailed past the Crusaders to clinch the championship of the 53rd Annual Chester Invitational Tournament in Chester, Illinois.
"It feels good," Perryville coach Justin Dreyer said. "The kids played hard, and they deserved it. We had a good tournament. It was a team effort."
Conner Stark netted 15 points and Luke Schlichting had 12 points and four assists for Perryville (11-5).
Chase Steffens recorded 13 points and four assists and Ryan Palmer added 13 points to pace Saxony Lutheran (8-8). Corie Williams tossed in 10 points and Elwood Voss notched eight rebounds and four assists for the Crusaders.
Stark was named Most Valuable Player in the tournament. Perryville's Eli Tripp, Saxony's Williams and Valle Catholic's Daniel Bergtholdt also made the all-tournament team.
Host Chester (11-7) downed Valle Catholic (9-5) for third place.

Brianna Mueller scored a game-high 19 points as the Class 3 state-ranked Crusaders remained undefeated with the win at home against the Chargers.
The Crusaders led by seven points at halftime and extended their lead by 13 points at the end of the second half to come away with the victory.
Grace Mirly recorded 16 points and dished out four assists for Saxony Lutheran (16-0). Raegan Wieser tallied 11 points and six rebounds for the Crusaders.
Kristina Schmelter had 11 points to pace Cor Jesu Academy (11-5).

Seven was not the lucky number for the Jackson wrestling team at Saturday's St. Charles West Tournament.
The Indians were short seven wrestlers and only had seven wrestlers competing and wound up finishing in seventh place.
Jake Byrd was the lone gold medalist for the Indians. The Jackson junior won the 126 division with a technical fall over Francis Howell sophomore Tyler McGhee in 3 minutes, 44 seconds. Sophomore Payne Guilliams received the silver in the 132 division after dropping an 8-1 decision to Eureka sophomore Alec Hagan.

The Tigers finished last at Saturday's 10-team talent-deep Parkway South Invitational in the suburban St. Louis area.
The 200 medley relay was the best event for Central as the Tigers posted a fourth-place finish with a time of 2 minutes, 21.39 seconds.
"It was a pretty competitive meet but a very good experience for our team," Central coach Dayna Powell said.
Defending state champion Glendale (Springfield) knocked off defending tournament champion Marquette by seven points.
