Cape Girardeau Central's Jacquen Cummins kept the fourth-seeded Tigers' season alive when the junior's game-winning triple drove in Brock Baugher to edge fifth-seeded Hillsboro 4-3 in a quarterfinal of the Class 5 District 1 tournament Saturday in Sikeston, Missouri.

Cummins laced a triple over the head of Hillsboro's left fielder, sending Baugher home in a 3-all tie in the bottom of the seventh. Baugher beat a high throw at the plate with a head-first slide.

Central trailed 3-1 at one point until Cummins, who led his team with two hits, sent the Tigers away with a win.

"It was an absolutely great win," Central coach Tatum Kitchen said. "I couldn't be more pleased with our effort, with our mental toughness. Just a great win. I think Hillsboro is a good squad, so it's a good win for us."

"They're very well coached, make all the plays, and they're going to put the ball in play. They do everything very well. We're going to have to compete and stay with them. If we can stay with them and get into the fifth or sixth with them, I like our chances."
