Cape Central's Jordan Maxton and Kate Harding captured the Class 2 District 1 doubles championship Friday evening in Farmington, Missouri.
The duo beat Sydney Miller and Kailee Kanell of Poplar Bluff 6-3, 6-1 in the first round before dominating Farmington's Faith Nelson and Thanh Phan in the quarterfinal round 6-0, 6-1.
Maxton and Harding took out another Poplar Bluff pairing by squeaking by Elizabeth Bottorff and Stephanie Hobbs 6-3, 2-6, 7-6(5) before knocking off Farmington's Irene Bompieri and Erin Coleman 6-1, 1-6, 6-1 for the title.
The Tigers advanced to Tuesday's Class 2 sectional, which will begin at 4 p.m. in Farmington.
The Jackson doubles team of Mackenzie Mumma and Madison Mumma won its quarterfinal 7-6(5), 6-2 over Central's Natalie Grimm and Lauren Uhls before falling in the semifinal round.
Molly Clark and Katie Black of Jackson also won a match over the Sikeston team of Allenna Landers and Emily Braden before their tournament ended in the quarterfinals.
Both individual and team district tournaments are held in tennis. Players must choose to participate in either the double or singles tournament and cannot compete in both.
Amy Dai of Central defeated Jackson's Lauren McClanahan 6-2, 0-6, 6-1 in the quarterfinal round of the singles tournament while Mikelle Culbreth of Jackson took out Central's Elizabeth Ustinov 6-2, 6-1 in the same round.
Culbreth advanced to the final and qualified for Tuesday's sectional by defeating Ali Price of Sikeston 7-5, 6-3 in a semifinal. Dai fell to eventual champion Martha Schwalenberg of Farmington 6-2, 6-2 before losing the third-place match 8-0 to Price.
Brianna Mueller had seven digs, four assists and two kills, but it wasn't enough as the Bulldogs defeated the host Crusaders on Pink Out Night.
Allie Sprink added seven kills for Saxony (14-11-4) while Logan Franke added six kills. Jordan Hecht dished out 12 assists for the Crusaders.
Notre Dame improved to 22-2-1 on the season.
Jessie Gartman had seven kills, seven digs and three aces to help lead the Eagles to a home victory.
Callie Hefner added 13 assists and Emily Jackson had four kills and two aces to go along with a block.
Callie Hefner served up nine aces and nine assists as the Eagles improved to 13-3 on the season.
Jessie Gartman contributed four aces and two kills, Emily Jackson had 5 kills, and Aubree Westerfield added two aces and two kills.
