The Central girls basketball team pulled within two points about midway through the fourth quarter but couldn't pull out the home win Thursday.

Poplar Bluff went on a 14-2 run in the third quarter to grab a 39-28 lead, but the Tigers scored the next nine points to get within 39-37 with 5 minutes, 40 seconds left in the game.

But the Mules scored the next four points, and the Tigers never got closer than four.

Chelsea Vinson scored 17 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for Central (6-5).

Apolonia Thomas had seven points, four rebounds and four steals in the loss.

The Tigers shot 39 percent from the field (14 of 36) compared to 45 percent for the Mules (20 of 44).

Shelby Beussink added seven points and four steals for the victors.

Summer Burger netted 14 points for Notre Dame (6-4).

Jackson's Kyleigh Troxel and Central's Maddie Siefert swam state-qualifying times.

Troxel's victory in the 200 individual medley was below the state cut. She added a win in the 100 butterfly.

Siefert's first place in the 100 breaststroke was below the state cut. She took second in the 200 individual medley.

Jackson's Jeanette Powell finished first in the 200 freestyle and second in the 100 butterfly, while Shelby Kate McCord placed first in the 100 freestyle and second in the 200 freestyle.
