Peyton Maddox belted a grand slam and finished with five RBIs to help the host Bell City baseball team to a season-opening 9-8 victory over Scott City in 11 innings Tuesday.
Maddox hit his bases-clearing blast in a five-run fourth inning, helping the Cubs recover from a 7-3 deficit. Scott City forced extra innings with a run in the top of the seventh.
Bell City's Bobby Wright ended the game with a two-out single in the 11th, scoring the winning run -- unearned -- from second.
Nate Finney went 5 for 6 at the plate for the Cubs, who had 13 hits. Wright had three hits, including a double, while winning pitcher Cole Nichols and Maddox had two hits apiece.
Braden Cox and Ty Wilthong both had two hits for Scott City (1-4).
Nichols pitched four scoreless innings in relief, striking out seven, allowing three hits and not walking a batter.
Bryan McNeely took the loss despite allowing one unearned run over 4 2/3 innings. He gave up six hits, struck out four and walked three.

Four was the lucky number for Jackson as the Indians scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to notch their fourth straight win of the season.
Tyler Slinkard got the win on the mound. He pitched 5 1/3 innings, struck out four and walked three.
Wyatt Eldridge hit a double for Jackson (4-0).
Cody Stacy was the losing pitcher for Ste. Genevieve (2-3). He threw five innings and allowed one earned run on five hits with five strikeouts and one walk.

Noah Niswonger and Cole Steinbecker each had a home run as the Indians trounced the Wildcats on the road.
Lance Chapman added a pair of doubles in going 3 for 4, while David Camarillo added a double and also went 3 for 4. Niswonger and Steinbecker both finished with two hits for the Indians (2-0), who had 14 hits overall.
Jordan Buchheit recorded the win for the Indians.
Zach Elfrink took the loss for Leopold (0-1). He pitched four innings and gave up three earned runs and recorded five strikeouts.

Sikeston's Trey Smith belted a home run and a double, driving in five runs to lead the Bulldogs in their season-opening, five-inning shutout of the host Hawks.
Jacob Clark was the winning pitcher. He threw four innings and allowed four hits with nine strikeouts and two walks.

Portageville's standout pitcher Taylor Tiffany belted a home run and recorded 20 strikeouts in the circle as the Bulldogs dealt the host Rams their first loss of the season.
Alexis Glidewell added a triple for Portageville (5-0). The Bulldogs, who finished third at the Class 2 state tournament during the fall season, dealt the same 10-0 fate to Kennett, the defending Class 1 state champions for the spring season, to clinch the championship of their Unbreakable Heroes Tournament on Saturday.
Jamie Glastetter suffered the loss. She pitched six innings and gave up nine earned runs on 11 hits with two strikeouts and five walks for Scott City (2-1).

Fredericktown dropped to 0-2 with the loss.
Hailey Noon, Megan Walker, Tessa Johnson and Anna Flores each had goals as the Hawks recorded their first varsity win in program history at home over the Tigers.
Kelly improved to 1-2 with the victory.

Rhett Simmons notched 10 kills as the Bulldogs picked up their first win of the season over the Knights in Washington, Missouri.
Tyler Allen tallied nine kills and John Fennewald served four aces for Notre Dame (1-0). Evan Landewee dished out 31 assists for the Bulldogs.
Notre Dame will compete this weekend in the St. Louis Preseason Blast Tournament. The Bulldogs begin play on Friday at Seckman High School.
