Jackson, Notre Dame and Perryville again claimed many places in the latest listing for Missouri State High School Activities Association's Scholastic Achivement Awards.

The awards were released in the May edition of the MSHSAA Journal and include fall and winter sports teams.

In the Outstanding Scholastic Achievement list, for teams with cumulative grade-point averages of 3.25 to 4.00, Jackson High School had 10 squads listed, Notre Dame had nine and Perryville had 12. Jackson Junior High had two teams listed.

The high schools also had teams listed on the Distinguished Scholastic Achievement list for teams with GPAs of 3.00 to 3.24.

Outstanding Achievement

Jackson -- Girls freshman volleyball, 3.58; girls junior varsity volleyball, 3.42; girls varsity volleyball, 3.81; girls JV cross country, 3.64; girls varsity cross country, 3.39; boys varsity cross country, 3.40; girls freshman softball, 3.32; academic competition, 3.85; girls varsity tennis, 3.65; girls varsity cheerleading, 3.31.

Jackson Junior High -- boys eighth-grade cross country, 3.43; girls eighth-grade basketball, 3.41.

Notre Dame -- boys varsity cross country, 3.87; girls varsity cross country, 3.43; boys varsity soccer, 3.67; girls freshman volleyball, 3.43; girls varsity volleyball, 3.63; boys JV swimming and diving, 3.31; boys varsity swimming and diving, 3.67; girls JV softball, 3.28; girls varsity softball, 3.60.

Perryville -- Girls JV softball, 3.45; girls varsity softball, 3.37; boys varsity cross country, 3.27; girls varsity cross country, 3.58; girls freshman volleyball, 3.26; girls JV volleyball, 3.43; girls varsity volleyball, 3.48; girls varsity cheerleading, 3.47; boys JV basketball, 3.43; boys varsity basketball, 3.28; girls JV basketball, 3.49; girls varsity basketball, 3.67.

Awards

  • John Muench of Cape Girardeau was named a National Federation of High Schools Officials Association official of the year for the state of Missouri in the sport of boys track and field.
  • The MSHSAA Journal also announced the winners of the Junior High Sportsmanship Essay Contest. Kelsi Prewitt of Clarkton topped the Southeast District, while Abby Landewee of Leopold was fourth and Randi Wiley of Chaffee was seventh.
