Notes: Central was treated rudely in its season opener, with a lopsided shutout at the hands of Eureka. Sophomore quarterback Garrett Stevens threw three interceptions that led to three Eureka scores. The Tigers finished with less than 175 yards of total offense. St. Charles West, which routed the Tigers last season, allowed a touchdown in the final minutes to lose its season opener. St. Charles West lost its starting quarterback before the season began, and its leading returning rusher, Erik Hart, finished with 386 yards on the ground last season.

Last week's games: Hillcrest (Miss.) 17, Jackson 14; Roosevelt 47, Career Academy 12
Notes: Roosevelt has several players being recruited by NCAA Division I programs, led by senior Darryl Robertson. Robertson rushed for 727 yards last season. The Rough Riders had three scores on plays of 39 or more yards in its opening game, including two passes of 53 or more yards. Jackson's defense was strong against Hillcrest, forcing the visiting Mississippi squad to punt eight times. The Indians were plagued by six turnovers but, led by the running of Joel Penrod and Josh Wheeler, moved the ball. Starting quarterback Rex Meyr showed flashes for the Indians in his first varsity start.
Last year's meeting: Scott City 14, Portageville 7
Last week's games: Malden 28, Scott City 6; Piggott (Ark.) 19, Portageville 14
Notes: A young Scott City squad will take on SEMO South opponent Portageville. The Rams had trouble generating offense at Malden in their opener, with Jonathan Barr's 72 yards rushing the main highlight. Jamie Pinkston completed just three of nine passes for 37 yards and had two interceptions. Portageville also managed little offense: Casey Ash led the ground attack with 49 yards and quarterback Tyler Fowler passed for just 44 yards.
Last year's meeting: Corning 36, Chaffee 0
Last week's games: Grandview 24, Chaffee 6; Corning 43, Rector 0
Notes: Chaffee's defense was overwhelmed by Grandview's ground attack in its season opener. Grandview had three backs combine to rush for more than 400 yards. On offense, Chaffee junior running back Kent Courtney racked up 150 yards on 25 carries, and Geoff Mirley caught five passes. Chaffee has lost 25 straight games dating back to the 2002 season.
Last year's meeting: St. Vincent 10, Park Hills Central 0
Last week's games: Priory 21, St. Vincent 9; Valle 14, Park Hills Central 8
Notes: St. Vincent's defense allowed more than 300 yards of offense in its opener, as the Indians' 11-game winning streak was ended by Priory. Park Hills quarterback Ronnie Calvird completed six of 17 passes for 79 yards and one interception against Valle. Dustin Boyle rushed for 60 yards on six carries for the Rebels.
Last year's meeting: Fort Zumwalt North 29, Perryville 27
Last week's games: Windsor 19, Perryville 0; Fort Zumwalt North 30, Warrenton 14
Notes: Perryville struggled rushing the ball in its season opener after losing top rusher Matt Unterreiner to graduation. Travis Brown led the Pirates with 21 yards on eight carries. Jacob Hayden threw for 97 yards but was picked off twice. Fort Zumwalt North had four players score in its opening victory.
