Poplar Bluff (3-3) at Jackson (6-0)
Last year's meeting: Poplar Bluff 17, Jackson 10.
Notes: Jackson coach Carl Gross said Poplar Bluff did well shutting down his team's run game last year with 11 defensive players within five yards of the line of scrimmage. He said his offensive linemen missed a lot of blocks and had trouble with their assignments. "We felt like there were situations that we could have run the football but there was somebody at all time coming off a block or missing a block or not blocking the right guy," Gross said.
Herculaneum (1-5) at Perryville (3-3)
Last year's meeting: Herculaneum 7, Perryville 6.
Notes: Perryville struggled running and passing the football against Fredericktown in a 35-point loss last week. Perryville also failed to make important stops on defense, surrendering a number of big rushing and passing plays, including an 84-touchdown pass. Coach Rick Chastain said after the game that his team was unprepared and never ready to compete against the Blackcats.
Scott City (4-2) at Hayti (6-0)
Last year: Scott City 28, Hayti 19.
Notes: Scott City will have a tough challenge this week against Hayti, which is ranked No. 3 in Class 1. Rams coach Ronnie Jones said he hopes to shut down Hayti's big plays on offense, which will be a key to Scott City pulling out a victory. Hayti has outscored its opponents 254-89. Jerome Covington leads the Hayti attack with 61 carries for 518 yards rushing.
Chaffee (4-2) at Malden (1-5)
Last year's meeting: Chaffee 28, Malden 7.
Notes: Class 2 Malden's opponents have racked up a 24-11 record, with two Class 1 state-ranked opponents (unbeatens Thayer and Hayti) and Class 3 schools Dexter and Kennett. Chaffee, a Class 1 school, has faced teams with a combined 12-24 record and is bidding for its first winning season since 1990.
