SIKESTON, Mo. -- Doniphan eliminated Cape Central from the Sikeston Invitational basketball tournament on Tuesday with a 67-47 consolation victory over the Tigers.

Cape Central, which dropped its first-round game to New Madrid on Monday, fell to 1-3 on the season.

Doniphan 6-11 center Adam Crader did the majority of the damage as he finished with a game-high 21 points. Shayne Talburt added 14 for the Dons.

Anthony Harris hit three of Cape Central's eight 3-pointers in leading the Tigers with 12 points. He was the only Central player to finish in double figures.

Doniphan, the fifth seed, led throughout, building an 18-12 lead by the close of the first quarter and a 38-21 lead by halftime. Doniphan outscored No. 8 Cape Central 29-26 in the second half.

"We played hard," said Cape Central coach Brett Reutzel. "The big guy was pretty dominant and we had too many turnovers. Our effort is real good, but right now were searching, offensively especially."

In other tournament action Tuesday, top-seeded New Madrid reached Friday's championship game with a 58-53 victory over No. 4 Blytheville.

In a first-round game, No. 3 Poplar Bluff turned back No. 6 Charleston 74-60. Poplar Bluff will play No. 2 Sikeston in the semifinals at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Scott County Central 97, Zalma 35

Todd Blissett scored 22 points to lead six Braves in double figures as Scott County Central routed Zalma.

Scott County (3-1) bolted out to a commanding 28-4 lead by the close of the first quarter and led 50-18 at halftime.

Dominitrix Johnson and Chris Johnson both scored 13 points for the Braves, Chris Pullen had 12, and Terrance Williams and Anthony Turner each tallied 10.

Advance 63, Bell City 54

ADVANCE, Mo. -- The Hornets (4-0) hung on in the second half to sting the stubborn Cubs.

Advance, with a 26-15 lead at the half, was outscored by Bell City 39-37 in the second.

"We couldn't put them away," said Advance coach Jim Hall. "They hit four of their threes in the fourth quarter."

Jared Ritter led the Hornets with 17 points, including three three-pointers, while teammates Andrew Jenkins and Aaron Cantrell contributed 16 and 11, respectively.

Leading scorers for Bell City were Jason Rampley with 15 and Gabe Scherer with 12.

Woodland 45, Leopold 38

LEOPOLD, Mo. -- The Woodland Cardinals took advantage of their opportunities at the charity stripe to edge the Leopold Wildcats.

Going into the fourth quarter, Woodland led 33-32, before allowing Leopold to go up by as many as three points early in the fourth.

But the Cardinals -- 12 of 16 on the night -- were able to hit clutch free throws late to secure the win.

Leopold was only 4-for-10 from the line.

"We have had some great games with Woodland and this was another one," said Leopold coach Carlton Thoma.

Jared Houchins led the Cardinal attack with 15 and Ryan Bandermann with 11.

Ashton James knocked in 20 for the Wildcats.

Chaffee 68, East Prairie 67

EAST PRAIRIE, Mo. -- The Chaffee Red Devils opened the season with a squeaker over the East Prairie Eagles.

Out shot at the free-throw line and outrebounded by the the taller Eagles, Chaffee found a way to win.

A layin by Matt Stroup with one second left spelled the difference, after East Prairie had taken a one-point lead with six ticks on the clock.

"We showed a lot of heart down the stretch," said first-year Chaffee coach Brian Horrell. "Our kids played hard and didn't give in when they made a run late."

The contest featured a scoring duel between Chaffee's Stroup with 31 points and East Prairie's Ryan Poyner with 30.

Delta 78, Oak Ridge 51

DELTA, Mo. -- The Bobcats had three players with at least 15 points as they avenged a loss to Oak Ridge in the Woodland Tournament last week.

Delta (3-1) got 24 oints from Lance Kinder, 20 from Joey Keys and 15 from Eric Bohnsack. The Bobcats led 37-30 at halftime.

"In the second half we played better, especially defensively and rebounding," said Delta coach Jim Goth. "We cut down on our turnovers, too."

Oak Ridge got 13 points from Ben Fadler and 12 from Zac Ruessler.

Farmington 90, Perryville 75

PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Despite a 20-point performance by Tyler Abernathy and a 19-point outing by Chad Ozark, the Pirates lost in an offensive slugfest.

Farmington's Ronnie Lashley scored 27 points to lead all scorers. He was one of four players in double figures for the Knights.

Perryville (0-3) trailed by just four points with four minutes left to go, but Farmington hit 13 of 16 foul shots in the fourth quarter to put the game away.

"Both teams were patient on offense," said Perryville coach Jeff Steffens. "Both teams shot the ball well. They jumped out in the third quarter and we stalled out and weren't as patient during one stretch."

GIRLS BASKETBALL

St. Vincent 59, Kingston 29

PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Danielle Sutterer scored a game-high 25 points as the Squaws improved to 3-2.

Amy Coleman scored 22 for Kingston, but no other players reached double figures in the game. Sutterer found a little more help as seven of her teammates found the scoring column as opposed to just one of Coleman's mates.

The Sqauws led 34-18 at halftime and proceeded to outscore Kingston 19-0 in the third quarter.
