Chaffee put up a solid effort Friday night but suffered its fifth straight loss, as visiting Hayti won 22-6.

The Red Devils fell to 2-7, including 0-2 in Class 1 District 2 play. The Indians are 7-2 and 2-0 in the district.

Playing on a muddy field and in driving rain for the first half, Chaffee led 6-0 at the intermission after a 47-yard touchdown run by wide receiver Collin Dannenmueller.

Hayti went ahead 8-6 after three quarters and pulled away in the final period.

"Our kids played hard and gave a good effort," Chaffee coach Charlie Vickery said.

Because of the field conditions, both teams had trouble moving the ball. Hayti had 118 yards of offense and Chaffee finished with 87 yards.

All the yardage for both squads came on the ground. Chaffee did not attempt a pass and Hayti had its only pass attempt intercepted.

"It stopped raining just before halftime, but the conditions were still pretty tough," Vickery said. "Field position played a big part in the game. It seemed like we couldn't get out of the hole in the second half."

Parkway West 29, Jackson 7

Jackson was eliminated from contention for the Class 5 District 1 title with a loss at home to Parkway West.

The Indians (5-4) scored first on Cody Randen's 3-yard run and Grant Ressel's extra point. The touchdown capped a 33-yard drive after Parkway West had a turnover on the opening kick.

But the Longhorns (7-2) responded with two scores -- Steve May's 9- and 1-yard runs -- before halftime.

In the third period, Parkway West scored on Blaine Gabbert's 63-yard pass to Tercel Seiber. Gabbert capped the scoring with a 59-yard run and ended the night with more than 100 yards passing and rushing.

The Longhorns will play Eureka (6-3), a 22-7 winner over Seckman on Friday, in Week 10 for the district championship.

New Madrid CC15, Perryville 12

Perryville again fell short in its bid to crack into the district victory column, losing its third close decision over a two-year span when New Madrid County Central scored a touchdown in the last half of the fourth period.

The Pirates (4-5) fell to 0-2 in Class 3 District 1 play after going 0-3 last year as part of an 0-10 season.

Perryville trailed 7-6 at halftime and took a 12-7 lead in the third period,

Kris Cottner scored both touchdowns for the Pirates and finished with 136 yards rushing.

New Madrid (7-2) gets a date with Dexter in Week 10 to decide the district crown.

Central clinches berth

Poplar Bluff defeated Sikeston 8-0 on Friday night to help Central clinch the Class 4 District 1 championship.

Central (4-5) had defeated West Plains 34-31 on Thursday to move to 2-0 in the district.

Central plays at Sikeston on Thursday and will advance to the sectional on Nov. 8 at the District 2 winner. Farmington leads that district while Festus and North County still are in the hunt.
