Scott City graduate Loren Groves didn't let a shoulder injury stand in her way at Friday's NCAA Midwest Regional track and field meet in Norman, Okla.

Groves, a senior at Kansas State, won the hammer throw by almost 8 feet, finishing with a throw of 202 feet, 6 inches.

"I am really excited about being the regional hammer champion for the second year," Groves said in a statement. "I am thankful I am still able to throw and finish out my senior year even battling an injury. I am looking forward to competing at nationals in my Kansas State gear one more time."

Groves also enjoyed success in the discus, finishing eighth with a throw of 159-11.

Southeast Missouri State junior Ashley Brewer finished 11th with a throw of 160-0 in the discus at the Mideast Regional in Louisville, Ky. She will compete in the shot put today.

Southeast sophomore Josh Uchtman finished 25th in the shot put with a throw of 51-7. He will compete in the discus today.
