Sam Gramling made the most of swimming in his home meet.

The Central junior won the 500 freestyle in a school-record time (4 minutes, 50.05 seconds), helping him win the Cape Rock Invitational meet MVP award Saturday at the Central bubble.

He added a victory in the 200 freestyle as well. The Tigers finished sixth in the team standings.

Jackson sophomore Ryan Gibson took second in the 100 butterfly, while Notre Dame's Coleman Schott was second in the breaststroke at the 12-team event.

Jacob Pewitt and Brock Dirnberger scored two goals apiece to lead the Bulldogs to victory.

Ryan Bass made five saves for the shutout, and added an assist for good measure.

"We took advantage of what they were giving us," Notre Dame coach Brad Wittenborn said.

John Unterreiner added a goal and an assist for the Bulldogs (13-3), who host Central on Tuesday.

Another game, more goals for Zach Zaruba.

Central's senior goal scorer posted another hat trick, pushing his total to 16 tallies in his last eight games.

Garrett Duncan and Lucian Johnson each had a goal for the Tigers (13-6).

Helias quad

Jackson split a pair of close games Saturday to push its record to 9-9.

Hunter Garrisson and Joe Shultz scored the goals in the 2-1 victory over Sedalia.

Both assists came from the foot of Zack Taylor.

The Indians lost their second game, a 2-0 decision to Helias.

CROSS COUNTRY Potosi invite

Mary Dohogne finished second to lead Central's girls team to a third-place finish. Teammate Brittany Moreland crossed the line fourth.

Notre Dame's Wynn McClellan helped the Bulldogs post a second-place finish. McClellan finished third, while teammates Logan Davis was sixth and Ryan Johnson 10th.

Jackson senior Greg Gibson crossed the line 11th.
