Scott County Central freshman Lainey Glueck is off to a dominant start this softball season. After an opening loss, the Bravettes (3-1) have won three straight, powered by Glueck's pitching and hitting prowess.
“[Glueck] has stepped up huge for us,” said SCC coach Tim Carlisle.
In the Scott County Central Round Robin, SCC routed Charleston 21-5 and edged South Pemiscot 13-9. Glueck earned both wins on the mound. Against Charleston (0-2), she pitched three innings, allowing two earned runs with six strikeouts while also going 3-for-3 with two triples and three RBIs. Allison Foster, Mikylia Daniel, and Briley Couch also contributed strong offensive performances.
Against South Pemiscot (1-3), Glueck went the distance, allowing two earned runs over seven innings with 13 strikeouts. Foster (four RBIs) and Makinna Easter (two RBIs) led the offensive charge.
“Both games were great team efforts in all aspects of the game,” Carlisle said. “We got up early against South Pemiscot and let them come back and tie the game. I like how we were able to stay calm and keep battling with every pitch. We have a lot of work to do still, but I am pleased with the effort these girls put forth in practice and on game days.”
SCC's winning streak continued with a 10-9 victory over Bloomfield (0-1). Glueck earned another victory, striking out 11 over seven innings. She also went 3-for-4 with a home run, double, and four RBIs. Easter, Daniel (home run), and Stevey Klingel each had multi-hit games as well.
SCC will return to action at Cooter (0-0) on Wednesday, March 20.
