Woodland 20, Puxico 17
MARBLE HILL, Mo. -- After going winless last season, the Lady Cardinals (3-0) are still undefeated after prevailing in a low-scoring game against Puxico in Woodland's four-team, round-robin tournament.
Kandice Abner scored nine points for the Lady Cardinals, who led 8-6 at halftime but trailed 14-12 after three quarters before rallying behind two late layups from Emily Davis.
"I've not seen a varsity game that low-scoring," said Woodland coach Curtis Finley. "The defense was decent, it's just that both teams had trouble scoring."
Greenville beat Risco 68-16 in Friday's other game. Woodland and Greenville, both 2-0 in the tournament, will square off at 6:30 tonight for the championship.
Eagle Ridge splits
HILLSBORO, Mo. -- Like their male counterparts, the Eagle Ridge Christian School Lady Eagles split a pair of games in the Christian Outreach Invitational, which features eight teams on the girls side.
Eagle Ridge (3-2) lost to host Christian Outreach 30-17 as no Lady Eagle scored more than six points, then defeated Edgemont Christian of Fairview Heights, Ill., 33-12 behind 20 points from Amber Karnes.
The Lady Eagles will face St. Charles Christian at 2 p.m. today for the consolation championship.
