MARTIN, Tenn. -- E.J. Daniel caught a 42-yard touchdown pass and returned a punt 51 yards for a second TD as Tennessee-Martin defeated Jacksonville State 24-14 Saturday night.

Marcus Dawson ran for 144 yards on 30 carries for the Skyhawks (3-1, 1-0 Ohio Valley).

The win was the first for Tennessee-Martin over a Division I-AA ranked team since 1993, and marked the Skyhawks' first victory over the No. 25 Gamecocks since 1988.

Tennessee-Martin's league-leading defense held the Ohio Valley Conference's No. 2 offense to just 221 total yards.

Jacksonville State (1-2, 1-1), which came into the contest averaging 222 rushing yards, was held to just 91 yards on the ground. Gamecock tailback Clay Green ran 78 yards on 20 carries.

Tennessee-Martin took a 10-0 first-quarter lead on a 40-yard field goal by Taylor Brown and Daniel's TD punt return.
