FREDERICKTOWN -- Fredericktown High School made the most of its first district baseball title in 30 years Thursday as it posted a 6-0 victory over conference rival Potosi in 3A Sectional play.
Jeremy Parson surrendered just four hits as the Black Cats moved into Saturday's quarterfinal round. Fredericktown (13-10) will play host to Herculaneum at 3 p.m.
"As far as we know this is the first win ever beyond district," said Fredericktown coach Scott Sikes. The Black Cats won their last district baseball championship in 1969.
Parson struck out three and walked two in going the distance.
Fredericktown had nine hits, including a home run by Clay Hendrix and a two-run triple by Derek Boswell. Brandon Boswell and Jesse Lutman added two hits apiece.
Fredericktown scored all the runs it would need in a two-run third inning, but added a single run in the fourth and three more in the fifth.
