FREDERICKTOWN -- Notre Dame's girls connected for a school-record 11 3-point baskets Wednesday night against Fredericktown, but it still was not enough as the Lady Black Cats emerged with a 62-56 victory.
Melissa Maurer accounted for a record six 3-pointers as she finished with 18 points for Notre Dame (14-8). Randi Senciboy added four treys and 15 points while Tracy Blattel accounted for the other long-range basket. Amanda Lange also added 12 points.
Fredericktown, MAAA Conference co-champions, was led by its 6-foot-2 center Lindsey Merrill, who scored a game-high 20 points. She was also largely responsible for Notre Dame's 29 3-point attempts.
"They had the 6-2 girl inside, and at least for the first part of the game it kept us out of the middle," said Notre Dame coach Jerry Grim. "That's what was open to us and that's what we took."
Fredericktown opened a 19-10 lead by the close of the first quarter and led by as many as 15 points in the second quarter before taking a 31-21 lead into intermission. Fredericktown took a 47-34 lead into the fourth quarter and withstood a Notre Dame comeback attempt. The Lady Bulldogs closed the gap to three points with about a minute left, but weren't able to get any closer.
Kristen Tripp added 15 points for Fredericktown while Christy Unnerstall contributed 10 points.
