FREDERICKTOWN -- Terry Helvey scored 10 of his game-high 27 points in the first quarter as Fredericktown jumped out to an early lead and then held on for a one-point win over Mineral Area Athletic Association foe Potosi here Friday night.

The Black Cats (9-3 overall, 4-1 in conference) took a commanding 23-10 lead after the first period on the strength of Helvey's performance, but then went cold in the second quarter when Potosi pulled back within five, 30-25.

Fredericktown went into the final period up by six, but had to stave off another Potosi rally in the fourth stanza, including a last-second shot than would have won it for the visitors.
