~ Southeast basketball's leading returning scorer may not play Thursday against Lincoln.
Southeast Missouri State men's basketball coach Scott Edgar was noncommittal Monday regarding Brandon Foust's status for the Redhawks' exhibition opener.
Asked if Foust would play Thursday night when Lincoln visits the Show Me Center, Edgar said: "I don't have a comment on that."
As for whether Foust would be on the bench Thursday, Edgar said: "I would assume so."
Edgar said Foust is "still working some things out within the program."
Foust, a senior forward who led the Redhawks in scoring last season, missed the first several days of practice after an altercation in a campus dormitory resulted in him being prohibited from campus and school-related activities.
But on Oct. 17, the university's judicial process determined that Foust would be allowed to continue as a student at Southeast.
Foust has since rejoined the basketball program, but has only been practicing on a limited basis.
While Foust may or may not see action Thursday, one local product will be in the lineup.
Edgar said 6-foot-10 freshman center Will Bogan from Bell City High School will start in the middle against Lincoln.
"His first time out, I don't know what to expect," Edgar said. "I'd like to give him some early action."
Southeast's returning starting center, senior Mike Rembert, continues to recover from knee surgery and likely won't play Thursday or in Saturday's final exhibition game against Missouri-Rolla.
Edgar said he is encouraged by the progress Rembert is making but doesn't want to rush him back.
"He's doing well in non-contact drills. He seems to be pain-free," Edgar said. "The most important thing, I want to have Mike ready for the Tennessee State game."
The Redhawks open Ohio Valley Conference play Dec. 6 against Tennessee State.
Southeast has eight nonconference games before then, starting Nov. 10 at Xavier.
