Former Southeast Missouri State outfielder Derek Gibson made the most of his debut with the Palm Beach Cardinals on Saturday night.
Gibson was promoted to the Palm Beach Cardinals, the Class A affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals, on Friday night after the rookie level Gulf Coast League Cardinals' season ended in the playoffs.
Gibson played right field and went 3 for 4 with a double and a two-run home run in the Cardinals 11-5 win over the St. Lucie Mets. He was walked twice and drove in three runs.
Gibson, an All-American and two-time All-Ohio Valley Conference selection, batted .301 with a .382 on-base percentage and .434 slugging with 22 RBIs in 42 games with the GCL Cardinals.
Gibson, who signed with the GCL Cardinals in mid-June after not being drafted in the 2014 MLB Draft, went 2 for 4 with a double, home run and three RBIs in the GCL Cardinals 7-4 playoff loss to the GCL Red Sox on Friday.
