The Southeast Missouri State football program has added a former NFL player to its coaching staff.

Troy Dumas recently joined the Redhawks as their linebackers coach.

Dumas is a former All-American linebacker at Nebraska who played in the NFL with the Kansas City Chiefs, St. Louis Rams and Denver Broncos.

Most recently, Dumas served as the defensive coordinator and linebackers coach at NAIA Doane College in Nebraska.

"This is a great opportunity to work with an experienced coaching staff that is determined to turn Southeast into a winning program," Dumas said in a release.

Dumas was a first team all-Big Eight Conference linebacker in 1994 when Nebraska went 13-0 and won the national championship. Current Southeast head coach Tony Samuel was an assistant on that squad.

Dumas was a college teammate of current Southeast assistants Brian Boerboom, Lorenzo Brinkley, Chris Norris and Kenny Wilhite.

Dumas was selected in the third round of the 1995 NFL draft by the Kansas City Chiefs. He played linebacker and special teams for the Chiefs and was a member of the 1996 AFC West Division champions. Dumas played for the St. Louis Rams in 1997 and 1998, then concluded his NFL career with the Denver Broncos in 1999.

Dumas replaces George Darlington, who accepted the defensive coordinator position at the University of San Diego.

The Southeast softball team used a power surge from record-setting home run hitter Michelle Summers to sweep Tuesday's Ohio Valley Conference doubleheader.

Southeast beat visiting Eastern Illinois 7-2 and 7-6 as the Redhawks improved to 13-16 overall and 3-5 in the OVC. EIU is 8-13 and 4-3.

Summers, who already holds Southeast's career and single-season home-run records, belted three homers Tuesday, including two in the nightcap, and she is also now the program's all-time runs batted in leader.

Summers finished the day 5-for-8 with seven RBIs, giving her 120 career RBIs. She has 10 homers on the season, just four shy of her school-record 14 from last year. Summers has 45 career homers.

Southeast had 20 hits on the day, including three from Stacia Dopudja, Lauren Bradley and Alex Ramirez.

Elaine Fisher was the winning pitcher in both games. She went all seven innings of the opener, allowing five hits and one earned run while striking out nine and walking three.

Fisher relieved in the nightcap and worked the final 4 2/3 innings, allowing two hits and no runs. She struck out five and walked one.

Summers drove in the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning of the nightcap on a sacrifice fly that plated Ramirez, who had led off with a walk.

The Redhawks return to action Saturday with an OVC doubleheader at Austin Peay.
