Chalk up another professional football milestone for former Southeast Missouri State University star Kelvin "Earthquake" Anderson.
Anderson, who plays for the Canadian Football League's Calgary Stampeders, has surpassed the 1,000-yard mark in rushing for the seventh straight season to set a CFL record. Anderson had been tied with George Reed, who put together six consecutive 1,000-yard seasons for Saskatchewan from 1964-1969.
Anderson, who rushed for 101 yards on 19 carries against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats last Friday, has 1,008 yards this season. The Stampeders' all-time rushing leader also recorded his 23rd 100-yard game, moving him to third all-time in Stampeder history.
"To have your name mentioned beside his (Reed) is definitely flattering," Anderson, a perennial CFL all-star in his seventh pro season, said. "I'm happy, especially for my offensive linemen. I don't keep up with records, I just come to play."
Said Stampeders coach Wally Buono, "Kelvin's been a great player ever since he got here. When he can do that for seven straight years, he deserves a lot of credit. He's not spectacular, but when you look at him, he's just productive."
Anderson, a New Madrid County Central High School product, is Southeast's all-time rushing leader with 3,392 yards, accomplished in just three seasons from 1992-1994. He gained a school-record 1,371 yards in 1992.
