The Cape Girardeau American Legion escaped Jonesboro, Ark., with a win, picking up a 14-6 victory over Sheridan, Ark., in its final game of the Jonesboro Riceland Ricemen Classic.

"It's always good to be coming back after winning one," Ford & Sons coach Michael Minner said.

Ford & Sons improved to 4-8 with the victory. Cape finished 1-2 in the tournament.

Sean Bard and Kendal Deason combined for nine RBIs to lead the way for Ford & Sons. Bard hit a grand slam and had three hits, and Deason finished with three hits and five RBI. Jason Umfleet added two hits and scored three times.

On the mound, Blake Urhahn pitched all five innings for a complete-game victory. Urhahn allowed 11 hits, six runs, struck out three and walked two.

Ford & Sons is in action Monday at home against Paragould (Ark.).

The Cape Girardeau American Legion junior team won a back-and-forth affair with Sedalia to advance to the finals of the Jefferson City, Mo., Tournament.

Brad LaBruyere pitched all seven innings to get the win. Jacob Wengert and Tyler Bruce led the offense with two hits apiece.

Kelso Supply (11-8)plays 3 p.m. today in the championship game against a team that was to be determined later Saturday.

Cape had won its previous tournament game late Friday night, beating Fulton, Mo., 15-11.

Anthony Wulfers was the winning pitcher in that contest and LaBruyere picked up the save.

Chris Brotherton had three hits; Philip Brotherton and Luke Moll each had two.
