CHAFFEE -- Cape Ford & Sons Legion and Chaffee Legion played to a split in a doubleheader ultimately ended by lightning Tuesday night.
Chaffee captured the first 9-2 before Cape bounced back with a 4-2, six-inning victory. Lightning knocked out the lights at Harmon Field in the top of the seventh.
Chad Bogenpohl suffered the loss in the opener. He surrender six hits in 5 1-3 innings. He struck out six and walked two.
Robert Kern led Cape Legions' six-hit offense with a pair of doubles. Scott VanGennip and Jason Bowers each added a pair of singles.
Chaffee broke open a scoreless game with four runs in the fourth. Ahead 4-1, Chaffee added five runs in the sixth to ice the victory.
Cape Legion also was held to six hits in the second game, but it proved to be enough behind the six-hit pitching of Brandon West.
West struck out 10 and walked three.
Kern again led the offense with three hits, including a double.
With the score tied 2-2, Cape Legion scored two runs in the top of the fifth.
Cape Legion returns to action today with a 7 p.m. game at Capaha Field against Mayfield, Ky.
