Awards and accolades continue rolling in for several area high school basketball standouts.
Three boys and two girls from the Southeast Missourian coverage area were named first team All-State by a statewide panel of Missouri sportswriters and broadcasters.
Oran's Alex Heuring in Class 2, and Scott County Central's Larandis Banks and Leopold's Kyle Stroder in Class 1, all earned boys first-team honors. For the girls, Mikaela Blissett of Scott County Central and Michela VanGennip of Delta were named to the first team in Class 1.
Heuring, a 6-4 senior center, averaged 15.7 points and 8.4 rebounds a game for an Eagles team that finished 27-5 and placed fourth at last month's state tournament.
Banks, a 5-11 junior guard, led the Braves in scoring at 19.8 points a game while also averaging 5.2 rebounds and 3.3 assists per contest. Scott County finished 16-14, losing to eventual Class 1 state champion Eminence in a state quarterfinal.
Stroder, a 6-5 senior guard, averaged 21.9 points, five rebounds and 2.9 steals a game for the Wildcats, who finished the season 24-3. Stroder connected on 96 of 219 3-pointers, good for 44 percent, for the season.
Blissett, a 5-8 junior, averaged 27.1 points and 10.8 rebounds a game for the 20-7 Bravettes, whose season ended in a Class 1 district final.
VanGennip, a 5-6 senior, averaged 24.5 points, 11.5 rebounds, 4.2 steals and 3.3 assists per game for the Bobcats (6-17).
Earning second-team honors for the boys were Oak Ridge's Ryan Below, a 6-3 junior forward who averaged 19.5 points and 10.2 rebounds a game for the Blue Jays (20-7), in Class 1; and Jackson junior Karson King, a 6-5 forward who averaged 15.4 points a game for the Indians (19-11) who reached the state quarterfinals in Class 5.
Named to the Class 1 girls second-team was Ann Dennis, a 5-7 senior from Scott County Central who averaged 17.3 points and 12.1 rebounds a game for the Bravettes. Woodland's Josie Long was named second team in Class 3 after averaging 21.2 points, 10 rebounds and 4.7 assists a game for the 18-6 Cardinals.
