DEXTER — An 18-0 run by Farmington in the first quarter proved to be a deficit the Lady Bearcats couldn't overcome Thursday evening at the Bearcat Event Center as Lady Knights ran away to a 62-36 victory.

“I didn't feel like we were very competitive tonight — I didn't feel like we played confident tonight,” said Dexter head coach Eric Sitze about the Lady Bearcats offense. “Our energy level wasn't good tonight. I would have liked to see us handle the situation better tonight.”

Kate Nichols opened the scoring with two free throws to give Dexter a 2-0 lead. A 3-pointer by Farmington's Maddie Mills and a pair of free throws by Skylar Sweeny sparked the 18-0 run. Nichols broke the run with a layup as the first quarters ended making the score 18-4.

Sitze was concerned about the defense of the Lady Bearcats as well.

“We gave up way too many 3s tonight — we just didn't adjust,” said Sitze. “We were not moving well. Our defense wasn't very active tonight. We gave up 60 points tonight. That's hard to come back against when they are shooting that well and we are giving them that many open looks. We have got to do a better job moving on defense than we did tonight.”

A 5-2 run by the Lady Bearcats cut the lead to 20-9 to open the second quarter. Farmington answered with a 9-0 run to stretch the advantage to 29-9. After a timeout by Sitze, Dexter finished the half with a 3-pointer by Nichols and a jump shot by Klaire Essner to cut the lead to 29-14 at half.

Farmington came out of the locker room and stretched the advantage to 43-17 following a 14-3 run. Dexter ended the third quarter with an 8-5 run to trim the deficit to 49-25. Farmington outscored the Lady Bearcats 14-9 in the final quarter.

“We have to adjust to the speed of the teams we are getting ready to play, I thought that was a big thing tonight,” said Sitze. “Farmington is senior heavy. They have played those girls on varsity for a while now. They are a smart team, a good basketball team. We just have to make adjustments and pick up our level of intensity.”

Maddie Mills lead the Lady Knights with a game-high 19 points while Skylar Sweeny added 18.

Kate Nichols lead the Lady Bearcats with 17 points, while Allison Turnbo added nine and Caitlin Giles had six.
