Coverage critique

I WAS wondering why Notre Dame gets all the front-page news in sports. Scott City won the volleyball conference, the football team won a great game against Portageville and there was only a little write-up about either of those. You gave Central a big write-up about their losses to other teams and again about Notre Dame. There are other teams in the area that are doing great and get no coverage. The only thing in the sports section is Notre Dame and Central. What about Jackson and Scott City? I think they work just as hard and get nothing but a little spot in the paper. The other boys would like to see their names in the paper, too.

Incorrect score

YOUR SEPT. 12 edition incorrectly posted the score of the Southeast football game against Bowling Green. The front-page score and the sports section article both listed the score as 42-3, when in fact it was 49-10. Either way it was a lopsided score, but Southeast deserved the list of the touchdown against such a tough Division I-A opponent. Also, there was no box score of the football game. I'm sure that was an oversight.

(We regret the error and the lack of a box score in Sunday's edition. Technical difficulties affected production.)

Hooray for Cubs coverage

IT WAS good to see the Bell City Cubs featured on the front page of your sports section Sept. 12. It was definitely an excellent effort by the girls, and it was nice to see the paper recognize the accomplishments of some other schools in the coverage area besides the normal three. Good job on expanded coverage.

Thoughts on conditioning

FOLLOWING THE Sept. 10 loss, Coach Lawrence Brookins at Cape Central mentioned his players' summer conditioning as a factor. Some of our boys have jobs to have cars to get back and forth to football practice. That means he has to work in the summer and can't go to conditioning every day when it is offered just one time a day. Perhaps they should split the coaches so that some take morning conditioning and some offer evening conditioning.

Kudos for tennis Tigers

I JUST want to congratulate the Central tennis team this year. They are doing an outstanding job, each one of them. They don't receive too much publicity about this in the paper, but the players go their way and they're a winning team and they're all such good girls. I want to congratulate them and say well done.
