Cubs are a team SORRY, BUT you know what: The Bell City Cubs played as a team. It is not just one player. I was just wondering if you were really at the game, because if you were you would have commented on the whole team's efforts. They played their butts off on defense. I am really disappointed because there is no one-man team and that is exactly how you are putting everything. You guys are getting carried away...

Hooray for new sponsor

I THINK it is fantastic that a local family-owned business stepped forward to be the new sponsor of our Cape Capahas baseball team. This is a great example of giving back to the community and the Rhodes family should be commended. I hope people remember this.

Where's the box score?

SEMO BASEBALL beats SMS, and there's no box score. You've got to be kidding. They beat Brescia and there's a full and complete box score, but not when they beat a College World Series team.

Wilson is right

THIS IS in response to David Wilson's column about the Southeast basketball program. I think the young man has Southeast's program totally figured out. After seven years of Garner at the helm, the program seems to be worse off than when he took it over. What does that say about Southeast? Where does the problem lie? Is it the head coach, the athletic director, or is it much higher up, maybe like the school president? I feel as though it starts at the top and works its way down. There's obviously not enough pressure on the program to be successful. Without pressure, people tend to become complacent at their positions.

Activism at Kelly

HATS OFF to Kelly students, parents and faculty for standing up for coach Rod McQuerter. I think you should all feel very fortunate that your school board has the decency and common sense to listen. I wish I could say the same for some other school boards. Coach Rod, glad to know you still will be on the Kelly bench.

Congrats to the Cubs

I JUST want to say Congratulations to the Bell City Cubs for once again winning the Class 1 state championship. You make those of us that have moved away from Bell City proud.

Good coverage of SEMO

I ENJOYED your article on Southeast baseball in Monday's paper. It is good to see SEMO baseball making the front page. We have a great team that is fun to watch. Your paper does a great job covering the season. I watched my first game last year and have been hooked ever since.

Capahas had a sponsor

I'M CALLING about an article on the sports page on March 20. The article said the Capahas never had a sponsor before just a few years ago. That's not true. The Kiwanis Club sponsored the team in the early 1950s. Doc Miles was the manager at the time, and the Kiwanis Club was instrumental in getting the lights at Capaha Park in the early 1950s, and they sponsored the team.

International opportunities

MY CHILD has received one of those "you've been selected" letters from an international sports group. People must be getting wiser about them because now they are almost begging to get people as they now have "payment schedules" so you can pay it off in payments. I went to the Web site to check it out and the only qualifications to be on the team are: be at least 16, be able to represent his school with integrity, be of good character and be a "good" athlete. Just about every athlete on any team in any sport qualifies. The letter even states "please let us know of any interested teammates." My kid's friends all get these and the majority of them have never been all-conference or all-state in anything. I think they might get names from summer camps the kids attend.
