Woe is Chaffee WHAT HAS happened to the sports teams in Chaffee? Chaffee has always been a strong winner in baseball and at one time a very strong contender in football. Correction

IN YOUR "Cape Fear" 8-Ball article, there were three mistakes made on the names of the players on the Cape Fear team. Rodney Amos, the co-captain, was not mentioned. Ron Berner's name and Danny Deck's name were spelled incorrectly.

(Thank you for the correct information. The Southeast Missourian regrets the errors.)

Where was the coverage?

Last Monday, Blake DeWitt of Sikeston was selected in the first round of the major league baseball draft by the Los Angeles Dodgers. He was the 28th overall pick. In your online edition, there was not a mention to be found. There was, however, a mention of the first overall pick -- not from Missouri -- and a story on a University of Missouri pitcher who was drafted in the fifth round. Please help me to understand why this local area product would not deserve a single mention.

(The Southeast Missourian coverage area does not include Sikeston, which is covered by one of our media partners, the Standard Democrat. A brief article appeared in the print edition and was available through the high school section online.)

New facility

AS A parent of a Jackson High School soccer player, I have been waiting two years to see the concession stand and bathroom facility built. In February or March, I read in the paper that the Jackson School Board was told that the facility was "near completion." All that is out there is a slab of concrete and pipes sticking up. It isn't any nearer to completion than it was in February. What is going on? Jackson High School soccer fans are tired of using porta-potties.

(Jackson school officials said last week there had been a delay in the block work but that the building is expected to be completed by the start of the fall season.)

Things to ponder

WHY CAN'T Jim Edmonds play the outfield at Wrigley?

Does Yadier know Bo?

IS YADIER Molina this year's version of Bo Hart?

That's some rebuilding

CONGRATULATIONS TO the Oran Eagles baseball team. You did it, guys. At the beginning of the season, your coach stated this would be a rebuilding year. You sat on the benches during your early high school years, waiting your turns to play. You are truly an inspiration to these young players who dare to dream from the benches of the dugout. What people don't know is that during the offseason, you worked hard in the summer leagues to improve your baseball skills. Sometimes you had to drive 50 miles one way just to play. Guys, don't forget to thank the parents who coached you during the summer leagues, drove you to games and gave you the humility to know that if one waits their turn dreams do come true. You truly are a Cinderella team. You never boasted you were going all the way like some teams do. You just kept saying there's something special about this team, and you made us all believers. You are second place in state but you are first always in our hearts. Thanks for a great season.
